some of you know my current conundrum...I have a g70 with a cracked tube. I also have a PG which is throwing a great pic, and would surely benefit from the LC optics. I know I heard that someone did this already with a PG...what would prevent me from doing the same???

What say you? Is it time for me to embark on a Frankenstein project?

Of all the things about an image...I have found resolution to be the least of my concerns. 720p from the PG looks very good to me. The boost to ansi via the LC would make the PG a winner in my books Smile Maybe I would splurge and make it a PG+ LC....

any reason that I simply couldn't do it?

Why not try to put the NEC tube into the G70 ben? I slight neck mod is all that would be needed i bet. I also think the NEC and G70 tubes have similar neck diameters so the coils will all fit correctly.

I know the PGXtra green is an exact match to the G70...but putting in a PG green would not be ideal because the red and blue would be better tubes with a smaller spot size. But, if it might be easier...I'd consider it.

The neck is too short.

The G70 magnetics will not fit.

Somebody did put the G70 LC gear into an Xtra, in Germany. It was a major operation involving a custom chassis.

I think its the focus coil that is longer on the G70. If we knew what the resistance and inductance between the two are they might be interchangeable, and give enough room to fit. How much shorter is it?

The german guy had to put it all in a previous NEC chassis...the 3000, I believe? Likely the same size as a PG10 though. I will probably have to just sit tight until I find a green...

Because of the way the G70 mounts bare tubes into their LC chambers, you *should* be able to do this *if* the LC chambers fit into the PG chassis, right ? Did you measure, will the chambers fit between the sides of the PG ?
The raw tube size of the PG tubes should be the same dimensions of the G70 tubes...with the AC hardware stripped off, they should fit right into the G70 LC chambers, unless the angle that the bell recedes from the tube front is significantly different between the XG/G70 tubes and the PG tubes, but I seriously doubt that is the case...
I don't know how the Sony handles fixing the LC chambers in the chassis but if they sandwich them between top and bottom plates like the PG/XG, could you simply transplant the plates and chambers into the PG's chassis ?

The LC chambers on the G70 are bigger.

Both wider and taller.

I looked at fitting them to an XG. It's all possible, but it's a big deal.

About 20mm.

You may be able to use the PG coil (they are made by the same company). Someone did fit a PG Xtra blue tube once, and had issues, and may of ended up using the PG coil....I forget.

The G2 will be all screwed up, but an Xtra can use a PG tube, so it may work on a G70. The pins are the same.
