|
|
Hey Everyone,
Last night had a strange thing happen to my Marquee 9500,
after 5 hrs of watching yesterday, the screen went blank. No error lights on LVPS or CLM.
I looked into the tubes and saw an image, but very dim,
I turned up brightness from the original 42 to 65 and the brightness increased, but not enough to light the screen.
Changed out my LVPS, made no difference.
My HVPS was replaced about 1 month ago, but I don't have any spare to change out to test.
The startup crackle of the HV sounds normal, so I am not sure if the HVPS is faulty.
Next I will check the CLM and pull the CMM.
Anyone had this problem before??
Appreciate your comments/help
Cheers
Steve

Update,
I pulled the CLM, did the normal DPB and SWB off, cleaned contacts, then replaced the boards.
Made no difference, still the same problem.
Next I pulled the CMM, I lost the image, couldn't even get up the test grids.
Put the CMM back in, the image came back, STRANGE, but problem still there.
Next is the HDM, and check the FCM.
Cheers
Steve

if it's floor mounted, maybe some glycol got under the chip on the backplane? I've had that cause loss of brightness, but usually via flickering, not solidly dim.

Low heater voltage can cause low light output.

Locate motherboard connector P14 near the rear of the blue tube. Connect a dc voltmeter and power the projector fully On, you should be seeing around 6.35 volts dc.

Hey Guy's,
Had a busy weekend with Christmas parties and dinners, so no time to report back.
Projector is ceiling mounted.
I pulled the HDM and FCM, put in some spares, still same problem,
Next I pulled the VIM and changed to an 02, Fixed.
So now I have to work out what is wrong with the VIM.
I can see nothing visible or damaged on the board, so I will get stuck into the schematic to see what I can find.
Appreciate all the comments and suggestions.
Cheers
Steve

Check your 14 volt rails........
There's two 4.7 ohm resistors right at the connector. They won't blow or go bad at random. If one is open, it's likely you have a short (or excessive load) on your 14 volt rail.
Hmm.... also check the two fusible (green) resistors right next to the 4.7's - one thing I know for sure, you have a rail out.

Thanks Mike,
I will check those today when I can get a chance.

OK, Been a while since I had some time to look at the problem with my 03P VIM,
Found that all the fuses are good, F1, F2, R10 and R12
Not found any bad capacitors, and everything looks good.
Forward I move on, and see what else I can find.
Cheers

Don't. G2 voltage is high enough that it'll fry most voltmeters. It can be up in the 800 volt range. And it can hurt you, BAD.

Measure at the tip of R76 on a neckboard, 500 to 630 volts dc is nominal. That will not harm most voltmeters.

As Tim replied,
normal is around 500 to 700v from what I have found,
The multimeter MUST be able to measure up to 1000v to be sure you won't damage it, or yourself.
My Fluke 87 is up to the 1000v challenge, and also very accurate, well worththe money I paid for it 10 years ago.
Cheers
