|

I know someone who is selling one of the above for $500. If I take my laptop with a vga to component cable or a DVD player with component outputs should I be able to hook it up and get some sort of picture. Should it be relatively easy to get into programming and find out the hours?
Thanks
Dan

If you mean a laptop with a VGA=>RGBHV cable then yes, you should be able to get a picture. I'm not sure if the 1209s accepts component or not?
Getting into the hours should be easy with a remote, but it's been so long since I've had a Barco I couldn't tell you how.

It should very easy to get into the setup menu and check the hours. The keystrokes to get into the menu are ADJ, ENTER, then its pretty easy to get to the page you want. Its possible that you might have to change the switches on the controller to bypass a password if the was one. Take the lenses off if you can and look at the tubes. I think you will need rgbhv to bring an image up, I have never tried anything else on mine.
Ah... Since it goes into standby mode on power up you might have more trouble getting into the menus than I thought. Check the tubes, if they look better than 6 or 7 then buy it. Retubing will cost a lot.
After reading the ad it sounds like he is turning on the power switch on the input but not turning it on with the remote. It my not have any problem at all. The pj has to be powered up with the stby button on the remote. If he does not have the wireless remote there is a wired remote in the rear of the pj.
Its only ten miles away from you so go get it!

Great set I have two 1100s myself. I'd guess (wild stab in the dark) that the quad is bad based on it going into standby. These later Runcos have the newer quads which aren't so reliable. Runco tends to suggest the projector be further back than optimal and so it can be hard to stay in the wear area if the tubes show wear. Green is most likely to show wear and the colored c-element/lens will both hide the wear to some extent. Both of my 1100s had bad quads (one would run for about 15 mins) of course they also had 14k-15k hours on them. I'd worry less about hours and more about the tube wear.
Personally the parts along in a Runco 1101 are worth more than $500, so if you are willing to part it out I'd run quick as now that you have posted here folks will have figured out where it is listed (it took me 10 seconds). The late model CoG board with horizontial linearity and colored c elements are both rare and hard to find. I am not suggesting you part it out, just saying you can pickup it up with little risk of financial loss in my opinion.

How much crt stuff have you actually SOLD recently ?? I'm not trying to be insulting, just curious...
I haven't actually SOLD anything crt related in a loooong while. If you're giving it away, for virtually nothing, sure, but getting $500. out of something is a LOT harder than it used to be...
As evidenced by the fact that I know where this DTV-1101 is, as well as a DTV-1200, and have no desire to try and figure out a way to ship them to me because I know for a FACT, getting my money back out of them when I'm done playing will be VERY VERY difficult...

I may go by and check it out unless somebody in the area beats me to it. FYI, if someone does I offered the guy $300 and he said OK.

Actually I parted out some of my second 1100 in the last few months and made more than $500 easily while keeping most of the boards for spares for projector one. Shipping and picking up locally are two different things of course. I still stand by the fact that the parts of an 1100/01 even in today's CRT market are worth at least $500. Is it worth shipping or buying to make a profit absolutely not. Is it worth buying locally to use yourself and taking the risk that it might not work out and you have to part it out for sure (though I wouldn't sit on the parts for very long as these are continuing to depreciate).
Edit: And to be clear I sold EHT board, red and green c elements, all three tubes, front aluminum mounting frame for tubes (could be used to convert 1208 to 9" tubes or 1209 (non-S) to continious schiempflug). This netted me more than $500 even accounting for Ebay/Paypal fees. The parts all sold quickly (for the ones sold on Ebay they sold the first time I listed). I did price them to move and they did and I still made more than $500 while retaining all boards other than the EHT (I had no need for the newer style version since I converted my projector to the older style because that was the only style of working quad I had). For $300 this is a no-brainer if you actually think you want a 9" set.

Drice, how'd you make out with that Runco after? I notice it's still not sold but he won't ship it due to size/weight and unless I knew what was wrong with it there's no point in even convincing.

I shipped the complete unit to Curt for his use. It should be in Canada by now.

Not yet, it's at the border I believe. WIll be grabbing it this week, and will then post a list of parts for sale at greatly reduced pricing, priced so I can break even on the unit only.

Just curious, who did you get to ship it? Freightquote.com won't give me estimates to my area so I'd have to call and BaxGlobal/dbschenker would run me $500-$600 where as I only paid $300 in the past, yay for higher fuel prices. I'd like to get something better but I want to keep shipping costs as low as possible.

Curt took care of all of the shipping, I just got it ready. I think he used the service that won't provide a quote to you.

I guess then the question goes out to Curt, who did you use? I checked with the companies listed on the site, one has yet to create my account and FreightQuote did call me once but I missed the call and didn't return it as the units I was interested in were sold after. Do I need to be a business? I'd rather pay $100-$200 for shipping compared to $600 if I see a projector I really want at a good price.

I deal with Freightquote and Pilot Air. Problem is, you're on the Rock, and shipping to you, even from me is insanely expensive. Double that roughly if you're shipping from the US, so $600 to you there is typical.
That's why I have a US depot. Something from California to Wa. state can run $125-150 or so for 200 lbs, but $250-300 if they bring it into Canada for me.
So... find what you like off the site, and buy Canadian!
All kidding aside, reducing cross border shipment prices is impossible, I researched it long and hard about 10 years ago, and then again 5 years ago to see if anything changed. It hadn't.
Air freight into Gander might be the cheapest option for you.

I guess the site was down earlier, I tried posting at work with no luck.
I'm not sure about air freight but shipping to Gander is actually ~$100-$200 more than it would be to St. John's which really makes no sense as it has to drive past Gander to get here.
I'm envious Curt, low shipping costs would open up a whole realm of potential deals. I need to move.
