Hi,
My TV (Sony CRT monitor) supports resolutions of 1024x768 and 1280x1024, but not 720p (1280x720). I would like to display some 720p content by letterboxing it to fit inside 1280x1024.
Is there any converter box that is able to do this?
thanks,
Irving

Yeah, if you have a Sony CRT computer monitor, and it's not horribly old, just a transcoder like Clarence linked to should do the trick... The only caveat is that the monitor has enough geometry controls to make the picture true 16:9. I have several later CRT's that would, but a couple of older monitors that would not.
If you wanted to stay "in the family" on this site, there are several devices you could use, depending on whether your source is analog component or HDMI.
What is your source?

Clarence - thanks for the link. That's the sort of thing I was looking for (I believe! - need to find out what output PC resolutions it supports, and whether it can be limited to use a max res).
ecrabb - currently source is PS3 HDMI, so I'm tossing up between HDFury2 or 3 or the Moome EXT-FULLHD v2 to go before transcoder box.
Moome box v2 has gamma controls on the box, so probably go with that.
PS3 ---(HDMI)---> EXT-FULLHDv2 --(RGB HD)---> Transcoder Box ---(RGB PC) ----> Sony Monitor
