Are there any devices that will transcode 1080p@72Hz from HDMI to RGBHV?

What source do you have that will output 1080p72 over HDMI?

I've got a DVDO vp30, that will output 1080p@72.

Check out the specs of the products on our products page here: http://www.curtpalme.com/Products.shtm\

The Moome VIM-FULLHD v2 (for Marquee) supports it as well, as does the Moome IFB-FULLHD v2 (for Sony).

Kal: I know you're just trying to help the OP, but have you ever had any personal experience with those quoted Moome products ACTUALLY WORKING with the desired resolution ??

I've owned both of the Moome products whose specs you quote as being appropriate for that resolution, and never had either of them actually WORK at that resolution...Personally, I think its awfully hit and miss whether they do work or not, and both are very expensive to just "try"...

Nope. Never had a way to do 1080p/72 so I have to go by the specs. Resolution's pretty black and white... it either works or doesn't at the specific resolutions stated in the specs. If they don't then the specs are clearly wrong and Moome shouldn't list them!

Paul, it might not be the moome card not passing the BW but the rest of your video chain after it, so in essence the Projector. I bet they test the outputs of the RGB amps to a scope that will tell what the final BW is or to a High resolution Monitor at his lab.

Other than an HTPC and maybe a TVOne scaler can output 1080p72 anyway...If your using an HTPC you might as well just use analog and just forget the Moome. The other point is very few CRT Projectors can resolve 1080p72Hz properly. Perhaps a MP tweeked G90, 909 or Marquee...So I'm not sure how important it really is unless you own one of those projectors.

Daves123, I'll post the 1600x900 timings in your other thread when I get home, I'm at work now.

Mike is right, i dont think the DVDO will do that res with out serious timing controls . In analog it might but not the digital output if it has one.

daves123, can your vp30 do a custom resolution like 819x1920 @72 hz for 2.40 x 1 content? If so this might be more up your alley if your trying to get a nicer picture.

Actually.... I have several other ways to see the resolution, and there is nothing, nothing at all wrong with my displays which prevent them from properly showing 1920x1080 at 72Hz refresh, my opinion is, Moome oversells his products on purpose. They are sketchy at best, that is *my* experience, I'm sure others have had different experiences, but then again, I've only ever heard of a single person actually SEEING 1920x1080 at 72Hz refresh through ANY Moome product...

PS: Personally, I'd *bet* Moome doesn't have a "lab", further, I would also bet, from the products *I've* received, that he doesn't test ANYTHING with ANYTHING, EVER...again, just a reflection of my personal experience, but thanks for the suggestions.

As far as I know it doesn't allow custom resolutions, but does allow for adjustments to the timing controls. I emailed Josh, who used to work for DVDO, and he said that the vp30 can do 1080p@72Hz with some adjustment of the porches.

The only thing I can think of so far to achieve this would be to input my BD player into my fury2 into the vp30 via rgbhv, and then output rgbhv to the projector. I've heard of a hacked firmware for the vp30 that bypasses the hdcp, and allows the digital inputs to be output over analog.

I'd like to try 1080p on my XG 135LC. I noticed judder at 60Hz. Not sure what to do?

Daves your right, use the fury to output 1080p@24 from the fury if your VP can accept 1080p@24 some can't accept that res and only accept 1080p@60 which will then need to use the 3:2 pull down conversion scaling which is always best to avoid if possible. But to save on the VP's bandwidth and get a better pic use 1920x800. This is active area scanning and will only scale the active area of the Blu Ray movie. the black bars above and below will not be part of the scan .

But if your watching a 16x9 movie then you'll have to use the full 1080 horizontal lines.

Just like he said, active area scanning is a great way to get an awesome picture out of content filmed at 2.40 or 2.35 x 1 on an 8" machine. A good 8" machine has JUST enough bandwidth to minimize or completely avoid scanline overlap at that resolution. That is the direction I'm shooting for with my machine. Such content is almost exclusively movie footage, for everything in 16x9 like HD broadcasts, I'm going to stick with 1080i. It may seem like a trade off, but hey, our projectors are primarily for movies anyway, right?

I had VP-30 before VP-50, it can output 1080p 72 with really tight timings (so that pixelclock is under maximum) So does VP-50. Problem is usually that crt-projector does not like those timings, hard to get picture fit to screen etc.. I tested that vith vp-50 some time ago and Moome card seemed to resolve that ok, but projector lost adjustment range so show proper size picture. Also my 15M long (about 50Ft) HDMI cable seems limit those pixelclocks.

But i think that you should know that Vp-30 cannot do proper framerate convertion from hd sources( 24/60Hz to 72Hz), VP-50 can do this right.
So only usefull 72P resolution is indeed 816P72 (also 1080i 72 if you can live with interlace artifacts)

Bandwidth has nothing to do with scanline overlap.

Perhaps you mean spot size?

And the real world difference between 8" and 9" bandwidth is general small, and in some cases identical. The task of swinging the cathode from black to white is the same no matter the tube size.

Excellent points. Nice to see some debunking going on...
