Just wondering if The porch settings using powerstrip would translate over to my vp30. I want to try the timings that MikeEby posted for 1080p@72Hz. I'm new to these NEC beasts, and know very little about custom timings and porches, but would like to get the most out of the projector.

Here is a link to the thread i'm talking about:

I think max output on a VP30 is 1080p@60Hz. It should however be able to do 1080i@96Hz and uses much less bandwidth, Kai's (kschmit2) timings should work and a lot XG owners use 1080i96 and love it. I have actually backed off a little and use 1600X900p@72 (71.928hz), I find it sharper and the projector is more stable, if you would like the timings I can post them.

More about Kai's timings are here:

Those 1080i screenshots look great. I just retired my ECP, which I was running at 1080i@60Hz through a DVDO HD+ for a while, and the studder made me feel ill. I backed it down to 720p@60Hz and then found the option for 72Hz in the HD+ menu. It looks like the HD+ would lock 60Hz from the source, and then convert to 72Hz. Anyways, it was much smoother.

From what i've read, you have to set the frame rate to 50 or 60Hz locked, then you have the option of 24/48/72Hz. The options are there regardless of output resolution. I've since upgraded to a vp30, which is basically the same, with a few more options.

I'd prefer not to stress the XG anymore than I have to, so maybe 1080i@96Hz is the way to go, i'm just not sure about setting custom refresh rates on the DVDO.

I read through the thread on the 1080i@90Hz timings, and I think i'd like to try 1600X900p@72 (71.928hz). Can you post your timings for this resolution.

Thanks
