|
|
My new*(er) to me BG808S(but with all Panasonic high res tubes and scheimpfluge mounting, no Sony tubes) is starting to wink out and come back, it happens at startup fairly regularly, but settles down and runs for hours after the initial fade out and back.
This was disappointing, but not un-expected really, I've never heard of a Barco that didn't have an HV part fail...
Recently I've noticed it wink out and come back a bit after its been running for a few hours, this is new, something is getting closer to failing, which sucks... I'm guessing its most likely an HV component, I'd guess either the EHT or the quad, but which HV part is it most likely to be ?
I don't have any HV components on hand to swap into it, except for maybe a splitter, but I do have some parts handy in case you think it could be something else.
Any suggestions ?
Some more details, I'm using RGB on Port 5, the source cable and connection are good, verified with another display, all three tubes wink out and come back in unison, I don't notice focus being compromised at any time...

When the pic goes off, how long does it go off for?
When it goes off and back on do you hear the static discharge and/or recharge? (providing you can hear the crackle on normal startup. Some displays its hard to hear this on.)
When it goes off, are there any abnormal leds?
You may want to try disconnecting wire harnesses to the crt boards, one at a time to see if you dont have a problem on 1 board causing loss of pic on all 3 tubes.

I can't hear HV crackle when the pic goes out and comes back, it disappears for a few seconds at most, I haven't looked at any LED's so I don't know if there are any "abnormal" ones or not.
The HV crackle on startup is very subdued, I hear it upon shut down, but that's the only time I hear it normally...
Which wires should be disconnected to eliminate single neckboards ?(I assume "crt boards" refers to neckboards ?)

I've had four Barcos during six years and never had HV problems. Might be low air humidity we have here.
Actually no other fail either, except one 801s rgb amp went bad.

Same here. No high voltage issues or other problems. I have two 808 and two 1209s projectors. Lots of spare boards but never had to use even one.... Not complaining though

If indeed you have an intermittent high voltage problem the quad would be my first bet.
There is a reason Curt buys quad's they are almost impossible to fix....

You must check red led on EHT board when image goes out.

Paul.
You need to carefully read through this section.....: http://www.curtpalme.com/Barco808_Layout1.shtm
There is info there then can help with your problem, especially the LVPS and EHT.
I said CRT board because the Barco has the output and neck board mounted together and you would disconnect harness from the output board. See the last page on the above link.

Thanks for the leads, I'll check those things next time I've got it running and see the winking...
Today I'm busy playing with my $48. 34" flat tube Philips HDTV with DVI input connected to my left over parts P4 3.2Ghz socket 478, HD4350 ATI graphics with Win7 Ultimate BD playing HTPC...the old guy I bought the tv from said he was going to just throw it out, but decided at the last minute to throw it on kijiji first. Hooked to the BD playing HTPC it looks better than any flat panel I've seen at the same size...could have a stronger ps though...
