picked up my new to me 8500 (ok its 8501 with out the acon). it has the squeeze and fan mods done by Tim. im now learning all the set up and adjustments. looking to do joust mods and a moome card eventually. wondering what i should look at before i get too involved. i've had it turned on for about 15 min total. thought i saw some light output fluctuations in the blue tube. what should i be looking for as a cause for this?
i'm sure i'll have alot more questions. thanks for your help.

Welcome to CRT and the Marquee club. The fluctuations could be some loose connectors either on the Video input Module(VIM) or the Video Neck board(VNB).
Also if your not sure who owned the set before and what work was done to it id give all boards a good cleaning and all connectors and removable chips connectors as well( do one at a time and note orientation to socket). Clean the entire board with a soft to medium tooth brush and denatured alcohol.
If Tim did the fan mod the P14 was done as well so no need to check that unless your want to double check.
I have a V1.2 Moome HDMI card for sale if your interested. I would also look for a Video Processor to compliment the Moome card although its not necessary, they just allow a lot more flexibility to your overall set up and some offer color management and grey scale like the lumagen HDP/HDQ line.
But other wise just set it up, and initialize it again a few times just to learn how it all works. the more you do set ups from scratch the better the set up is each time and you learn more and more .

The 8500 is a great machine. Don't even waste your time trying to hook up RGB, make the moome card a priority IMO. The previous V1.2 cards are cheap and excellent perfromers for direct blue Ray. I've got a friend up on Bell road in Phx if you get stuck and need some help.
