It makes a loud snap sound at least once during a movie, no visible effect on the picture, just a startling sound!

Must be playing a picture for at least half an hour, doesn't happen when idle. Is it overheating? Picture is stable and does not blank.

I'm using 720p from HDFury2 to Extron 202 to input 5.

PS - 1080i looks bad so I don't use it Sad

Your probably the only one who can solve this. You would have to see where the arc is coming from. And yes I know its difficult since it only happens occasionally. Plus it may damage something when it does arc. It probably will eventually get worse. The only thing you can do for now is unplug it and hunt around in there for a slight burn mark even on the metal case parts. Look in the area of high voltage and horiz. sections... Good thing is its probably not a tube since nothing happens in the picture. Happy hunting..

Thanks for the reply. Just wanted to check if it's a known issue related to heat or static build-up. Sounds like it's just one of a million random minor issues. I hunted around but don't see any burn marks inside.

I did notice that parts of the power supply are almost too hot to touch (especially near the beige plastic cube that makes the medium pitch noise when displaying a full field of white during warmup cycle). Has anyone figured out how to mount a fan on that side? There is space, but I'm not sure which way you would point the fan so as to not mess up the designed airflow.

Try this: Take the case off the projector. Set up a video camera. Record. Watch movie on projector. Wait for "SNAP", rewind video camera. Look for arc.

If there is no effect to picture, it's mechanical sound from projector frame heating. I guess it happens because 801s have three hot running rgb amps connected to cross plate that is screwed to side plates and that is expanding more than other cross plates.

My BD801s had those same sounds during heating and there was some other 801s owner asking this same thing some time ago.

There should definitely be two back end fans, both are blowing fresh air in.
