Hi, i got problems with the WB of my NEC.
All tubes have no wear, so i think it should be possible to get a good white balance.
I got a humb at 30-50ire (10%) and the focus doesn't have an influence on that.
I know that there are a few trimpots but i don't know what functions the have?
The Defocus switch of blue ist set to ON.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the first rule of NEC projectors Never touch the trimpots inside if you don't know their function?
White balance is controlled through the "adjust" menu isn't it?

with any NEC you MUST defocus blue as much as possible...this results in a flatter grey scale, and much better colors.

Does this mean that apart from setting teh defocus switch to ON, I should also manually defocus the blue ?

Often, yes. Not always, of course, there is a large variation between NEC's, but *often* yes, more defocus of blue is needed than is provided ONLY by the Defocus switch... especially if your blue is really well setup, magnetics wise, and is capable of being very sharp when the Defocus switch is set to off.

Hope I am not stating the obvious to you Artinaz, but be sure to electronically defocus blue. in the focus menu.
Optical focus should have no benefit to the grayscale tracking.
BTW- the color tracking is looking pretty good- my Xtra has ~5K hours on it, and no matter how much I defocus blue there will be a little blue hump- I had to find a happy medium between blue halos and color accuracy, but it does look sweet now. I think with a bit more defocus and fiddling you can get the grayscale *slightly* better. I steped away from tweaking for a while and just watch movies now, but maybe its tie for a tune up  ....
also remember that you will likely need to touch up geometry and convergence after focus is dialed in.

I agree...that's why I said MAX defocus....and I would defocus the pot, not the menu. ALthough a combination of both might help even more, but I doubt it.
