Revised, sorry guys..

Equipment - Samsung BD-P1590 Blue Ray player HDMI out => HDMI in to HDP port Denon AVR-2310CI receiver. Denon AVR-2310CI HDMI out from "Monitor" HDMI cable connector => to DVI-D cable connector => Optoma EP728 (that specs say will accept DVI-I/HDCP). Again, the cable has HDMI connector on the receiver side and terminates at the projector with a DVI-D....The projector is HDTV only or less.

Question, is it an "handshake" issue here or what. Initially when I turn on the systems, the projector is recognized but when the Blue Ray is turned on, screen goes black with only "Denon" logo displayed. Lower right on screen, the symbols of "disc" and VGA connector symbol flashes alternatively. What gives?

The guy I bought the projector from commented to me:

I would recommend hooking the blu ray player up to a different display and changing the output resolution to 720p or 1280x720(as close to this as it allows). Once you change it on another display you should then be able to hook it up through hdmi->dvi and the projector should be able to recognize the input

What do you guys think my issue is?

Thanks

I'm guessing that the Denon will not convert the component input to HDMI out. You can't cross signal types, there's no connection between them in the receiver.

Why are you using Component video output from the Blu-ray player but using DVI into the projector? Better question is do you realize that if you try to watch a 16:9 Blu-ray movie it will reduce the resolution to the maximum width of the DMD, which is 1024. That means an image that is 1024x576.

Yup, what they said. The Denon is not an analog to digital video transcoder. AAMOF even the high end scalers will not do this because of HDCP (copyright protection).

well the real issue is you need to get rid of that 1024 x 768 conference room DLP. Surprised Even a lower end CRT will give a better picture in home theatre.

Check that^

What's the model number for your Denon receiver? '1590 is your Bluray player.

Used the word "component" in error initial post. Took it out and revised the whole first post. See if you can make heads or tails of it now..newby, Greg

Do you have any way of telling what resolution the Blu ray is set for? IE: 720P 1080i or 1080p Your Blu ray may be sending a signal your P/J can't do. Or your Blu-ray could be on 24 frames which your P/J cant do either.

You either have to do a manual reset {I don't know how on your player} or hook your player to a known 1080p compatible display to check.

First off, whatever I set from the Blu ray, the receiver "Denon" logo shows up on the screen after an initial seach. I used a monitor and reset the Blu ray resolution from 1080p to 1080i with no sucess. Then I went back and set it back to 720p with no sucess.

Before I installed the new receiver, I was using my old receiver and HDMI =>DVI to the P/J and was watching movies ok.

Maybe I should go back to that set up and use an optical cable Blu ray => Denon receiver for the audio?

On the Denon, my HDMI cable was plugged into the "monitor" port and then routed DVI-I into P/J.....

Your receiver is HDMI profile 1.1 the sammy is HDMI profile 1.3, sometimes they dont like each other. HDMI sucks!!!! I bet the HDCP encryption is getting confused between the two different profiles. Not 100% sure but thats just my guess.
