|
|
Hello,
I've just got my BD808s running by changing old worn DVB tubes against near mint DMB tubes.
It works fine but it isn't really sharper than my recently bought NEC9PG.
so i'm thinking about which projector i should keep.
The BD808s has HD8b and i've already coloured glykol, the NEC has colour filtered HD6c lenses.
problem is that the Barco has 24000h and the NEC only 4000.
Is there any mod to increase sharpness on the Barco ? changing caps ?
would HD144/145 lenses instead of the HD6c lenses increase sharpness on the NEC ?
best regards

The number one biggest difference for me upgrade wise on the Barco Data 808s I had was going from the standard resolution 180DVBs to high resolution P16s (PT18s should also be high res). Made a huge difference on HD. I have heard others say that the HD8 lenses hold the Barco back and that may be true I cannot say. You could also upgrade the neckboards to the 120 MHz that did not make a huge difference on video other than eliminating the smearing the 75 MHz boards normally exhibit. All that said on a 24k hour Barco or any projector there could be any one of a number of issues that are causing the projector to look soft. Hard to tell if you haven't seen a couple of other similar Barcos in action. With high res tubes my Barco Data 808s was "sharp" for 720p and 960p but soft at 1080i (scan lines were visible but horizontal res was soft) and 1080p.

ok, i will not change tubes anymore already changed from heavy worn DVB to slightly worn DMB's (got them for 150USD). and P16 are very hard to get in europe at good price for me as a student.
a guy near me is selling a mint bg 808 at the moment maybe i ask him to show me that i can compare with mine.
i'm running 1080i at the moment, i prefer that because of lower bandwith to avoid too take care of the components and because of the 540lines (i've read in the sony 12xx manual of wes hill, the tubes can only do 600 lines good).
would the NEC9PG with HD144 do better focus than the BD808 with HD8 ? if yes, i think about keeping the NEC and sell the Barco.

I know 1080i uses less bandwidth but it has looked soft to me on every Barco 8" set I have had including a 1208s/2. 720P was great on all of them but sharper on those with the high res tubes. Based on the comments of others I would say the HD8s might be the limiting factor for horizontal resolution. I cannot comment on the relative performance of a 9pg versus a Barco as I haven't ever seen an NEC in action. I would stick with whatever your eyes tells you looks good and sell the other one.
