This is strange. Early (~4-5AM EST) I was watching The Royal Tenenbaums on HDnet movies. I turned it off and went to work. Came home and turned on the same exact receiver and no sognal.
I have an H20 and two HR21 and all of them are having a problem in which channel 306 (HDnet) and 551 (HDnet Movies) are not working. I reset all of them (pulled the power cord for 30-minutes) and performed a Reset Everything (per DirecTV CSR) and no change.
I know it is not the channels themselves as the old location of HDnet (channel 76) is working). The only thing DirecTV could do was setup a service call for Friday evening.
I conducted a System test and of the five satellites (I have a 5LMB dish and 4x8 multiswitch that DirecTV installed) there were two listed for the same inclination: 103º (a) and 103º (b). It would appear that 103º (b) is not working at the receivers.
All other channels are working fine--for those that I get. The regular HD channels (like COMHD, USAHD, SyFyHD) are working, as are my HD locals and those in the HD Extra pack (e.g. Smithsonian Channel HD).
I have about 55-60 channels in my favorites and the only ones that are not working are 306/551 for HDnet/Movies. Anyone else having this problem, or a problem being reported via the System test for satellite 103º (b)?

Pardon my french, but DirecTV can go F itself. When I was directed to perform a Reset Everything I asked, "will this affect any of our recordings?" She said, "No." LIAR!
There went 45-50 worth of recorded material. No new episode of House (season premiere). Wife just got home and boy is she pissed. And DirecTV's response when I called back, "we're sorry, but there really isn't anything we can do for you." I asked her if there was any reason to see why I should remain a DirecTV customer considering they deleted my entertainment and the only two channels I currently cannot receive are those not carried by Comcast and she went silent.
DirecTV, you can kiss my arse!

No problems recieving HDNET on 306. Channel 551 is not availlable. However, 552 is HDNET Movies (HDNM) and is available for purchase.

Did she have an Indian accent? When I use to work for EDS, I hated to call desktop support. They always wanted you to do crap like that. Me: "Hi, I think I have a network issue or VPN is down." Unsupport Rep: "Can you reformat the hard drive?" Idiots

No, she spoke like an American, and her name was Pamela. Ok, I should have said 552, but that doesn't change the facts that a) they were not working for me yesterday and they are now, b) haven performed a reset on one device should have required the same to all since the first didn't resolve the problem, and c) shouldn't have ignored the customer's concerns over losing recording considering I am paying to have them recorded.
Its nice that they even checked ahead of time before directly me to such a disastrous path and then lying about the consequences. No compensation is deemed by DirecTV.

Did you do a simple reset (unplug, hit red button, or through the setup menu)? Or, did they also instruct you to reset and update your firmware? It's quite unusual to lose recordings after a simple reset, but I have seen some reports of it happening. With a forced firmware update, however, it can be risky. As a participant in DirecTV's leading edge program, where they beta test new software, I have updated my firmware virtually every Friday night for months without losing recorded programs.
Incidentally, your satellite boxes are reset many times a year as they rollout the national release of new firmware or you suffer power outages. This holds for both DirecTV and Dish.
Sorry for your troubles, but I caution you that the grass may not be greener on the other side of the fence. I lost my recorded programs 3 times in one year with Dish due to box failures. They would send me a new/rebuilt box each time, but my programs were lost. It sucks, I know.

So, no problem here with channel 306.

Yep, Dish actually does forced nightly resets on all of their newer boxes.
I'm just getting DTV installed today, so I guess I'll see what kind of issues they have now.

Well, the problem self-resolved. Too bad I have nothing to show for the time, effort, and money I've spent with DirecTV for DVR service these past few months. And DirecTV seems to think I can live with their mistake (no compensation to be offered on their part) or leave.

Let's see... A $500+ computer plus a $200 peripheral (running Windows, no less) to replace a simple set-top $200 box and $5 monthly fee... and for everyday use. I'll pass on that.
I'll take my DirecTV and simple set-top remote solution for everyday viewing every time.
There is no perfect solution.

The dish was out of alignment, but it also lacked the secondary support--according to the service technician. He installed it, realigned the dish and the signals for the two satellites for HD went from 30's to 90's on the STB signal strength meter (per transponder/satellite).
But, I am still PO about the CSR leading me down a path and lying about the consequences. And speaking of cable ... a peer of mine has been trying to get Comcast to deliver what she signed up for for four weeks now. Last week she placed no less than eight phone calls to them, leading to two no-show service technicians. Yeah, I want cable.
