I have this buried as part of another post but wanted to try to get an answer before I buy one later today. Will a powered hdmi switch provide the type of signal a receiver is looking for to pass a signal or are these just pass through units? I have a receiver that is having issues communicating with a HDFury2. I wanted to see if I could put a powered hdmi switch inline to help resolve this issue. I have one of the passive 3x1 switches that I tried this with and it did not help.

My guess is that it wouldn't matter either way if the switch was powered or not. The power is usually just for boosting the signal for a longer cable run. Otherwise the internals are probably the same. Although, with HDMI the only way to be sure is to either test it or find someone else who has tested it. I don't think HDMI switches have EDID's in them.

One way for sure is to connect it to something like a Lumagen scaler that can force the EDID to what ever settings you want. But that is an entirely different thing than what you are looking for...
