I didn't know if anyone but my wife was interested in these. They came out yesterday and all four can be had for $81 at Amazon. Best buy wanted $95.

well there's a long standing trend of even numbered Star Treks being good and odd numbered Star Treks being bad. good to see that marketing is bundling up the good ones for us

OK, I'm a fan, but not a trekkie or up on things... I'm confused...
Here's 1-6 all in one set for $70:
http://www.amazon.com/Star-Trek-Original-Collection-Frontier/dp/B001TH16DI/curtpalme-20
There's the trilogy for $40:
http://www.amazon.com/Star-Trek-Picture-Trilogy-Blu-ray/dp/B001TH16D8/curtpalme-20
The STTNG Motion Picture Collection for $46
http://www.amazon.com/Star-Trek-Generation-Picture-Collection/dp/B002I9Z8GW/curtpalme-20
Now, they've released 2,4,6 and 8 as individuals for $80...
The new one comes out in November:
http://www.amazon.com/Star-Trek-Three-Disc-Digital-Blu-ray/dp/B001AVCFK6/curtpalme-20
When the new one comes out, will they have all been released on BD, then? So, you could buy the 1-6 set, the STTNG set, and the new one and have them all, yes?

Sure but then they will re-release everything in Director's cuts and you'll have to buy-upgrade again.
I'll be waiting for the Director's cuts in one package to pull the trigger if at all.
Star Wars, same thing. I will wait for the money grubbing marketers to milk/fleece the earlier adopters and wait for the ultimate set before bothering to replace my DVD copies. When they get around to it that is.

I don't know... The Director's Cut box set would be ridiculously overpriced with a whole slew of crap I'd never get around to watching - so the current version might be fine for mild fan like me.
Star Wars... There's one I hadn't though about in awhile. Anybody heard anything on where Lucas' head is on a BD release? Is he waiting until he needs a cash infusion for his next big project? Or, maybe until his kids are old enough to start spending money!

Maybe Greedo will be shot by an automated security turret instead of Han this time around

Yep there is a lot of extraneous crap with the Director's cuts that even I haven't wasted my time on, there is just too much. The cost well maybe, but for a fan who watches them repeatedly a whoooole lot....
I know I'm projecting here, but I bought a box set of star Trek the original series and TNG all in one package , great. The TOS' were all director cuts and TNG were not.
Then low and behold all were released in Director's cut's a short while later.
I do like the director's cuts though, especially The Wrath of Kahn. The scene where Kirk gives the dying cadet permission to die.["The word is given, warp speed" ] is made much more relevant/important with the fact that the Cadet is Scotty's Nephew.

SC | SC, they knew what they were doing. Why buy a set of the first six movies if you are wanting the 8th one, and not the 1st, 3rd, or 5th movies?
Star Trek and James Bond are the only movie series that I have no problem not owning all of the films.
