I was shocked to find out how many I have since, I've seen every one at least twice Many off them a whole lot more, I mean a whoooole lot more
Yes I am bored.
My counting was as follows, 1 movie = DVD or BLU-RAY counts as 1.
Multi disc sets special feature discs do not count, just the movie.
Aliens special disc set has 7 discs but only 4 movies so 4 disc count. Not 7 discs.
T. V. series I counted each disc in the series,
Stargate has 10 seasons with 5 discs to a season so... 50 discs. Not 10 seasons.
Total Movies/shows........ 317
Am I normal?
How about everyone else.
Oh and ripped/ burned/ saved movies count too .Same rules, it's about the entertainment shows not the making of..although that stuff is good too.

VHS tapes- about 1000. I had a deal going with a buddy that used to work at a video distribution place years ago for $1.00 per full length movie trailer. I used to tape everything, and of course I've never watched any of them.
SD DVDs- about 150, most bought used.
HDDVD/DR- about 15.

Same here. I took a great deal of time recording The Simpsons on VHS when I was in college. Several years later I realized I'd never watched them and they were now basically worthless because of DVD. I have a few classics I have kept (Galaxy Quest, Blazing Saddles, The jerk, etc) but there are too many new movies for me to re-watch many of the old ones.

DVD Profiler says I have 649. This includes some homemade discs, but also counts multi-disc sets (such as the Alien set) and TV season sets as a single items.

I've got like 240 hd movies on 20 or so hard disks. These were downloaded from HBO and Starz before firewire copy protection was implemented. Now I download to D-VHS but fewer because of the hassle. Maybe another 100 or so regular DVDs and 100 or so VHS. 10 blu rays or so.
Only watched about 1/2 of them - picking the ones the wife likes first results in a large set I will never watch.
Plus Blu-ray rentals by mail from Blockbuster @ 2 per month for $5 is really my prime watching; that source has worked great for me.

Around 100 Blu-ray, 10 HD-DVD's and 50 SD-DVDs. I stopped buying SD-DVD's years ago and started renting when I found out about the new HD formats coming.
Recently I started ripping them to a Media Server....Now I can access all off the HD Movies within seconds with the remote using Media Browser running in Windows 7 Media Center.

I bought DVD from 1996 to around 1999-2000 until they started renting them. So I'd guess 4 movies a weekend for 3 years so 624 plus some box sets.
VHS 2000 or so.
Beta I think I have around 4000
LD Hmmmm maybe 300 or so.
CED- none though I was tempted just for the WTF is that factor?

I'm glad to see that movies even Laserdiscs and VHS tapes were counted. To be honest they slipped my mind I only have about 50 VHS tapes, and 10 BETA, but I have no idea where they are stored I haven't see them in years.
Keep the responses coming, it will be interesting to see if an average appears.
Of course even if i found them I couldn't play the BETA'S. No machine around my house and I sure as hell ain't that nostalgic to buy a BETA machine just for PURPLE RAIN.

What system are you using for this? I have been thinking, well no, I've been planing to go the server route. It's very intriguing being able to just push a button and your movie or song is there artwork and all.

It's Media Browser...If you have the files named correctly it goes out to the web and grabs the art. You don't need to do anything.
I don't use the built in player in WMC7...It sucks for MKV files, I launch Media Player Classic with Media Browser set to full screen...works almost seamless....I will be honest...It's a little geeky to get everything working right...But once it is setup...It's fairly impressive...The best part is everything needed is free software except for Windows and AnyDVD...Media Portal is cool I guess too..I just haven't tried it.

It actually look much slicker then my screen grab...I used terminal session to grab the screen shot...It really looks like this...The reflections look just too cool.

Oops, forgot about the LD collection. I'd guess I have at least 50 somewhere, if only I could find them...

Me too. About 30 in the HT. Maybe 70-80 if you count all the kid movies (mostly VHS) upstairs.

How do you count something like this with 5 seasons or so spanning 20 discs?
I have a bunch of sets with multiple episodes/seasons like this and others probably do too.
I counted up the regular movies on Blu-ray and came out to just over 200 as I had guessed.
I forgot to mention that I have one HD-DVD too. Just because.
