|
|
I posted this over on avsforum.com. I know a lot of you on here are on there aswell but as I haven't found a good explanation/solution yet I thought I'd ask for some help over here - hope that's okay.
Here goes:-
I have an ECP 4100 which I have repaird and set up pretty well with help from manuals, forums and Curt's site.
However, using electrical focus on the red tube I can only get the horizontals or verticals to appear in focus and have to leave it half way between these two points so both horizontals and verticals are rather soft. Optical focus is okay.
How should I go about solving this? Is the red tube at the end of it's focusable life? Is this an indication of bad astig setup? Should I be looking somewhere else to solve the problem?
I am pretty confident someone will know what this fault is before I try solving it blind.
Thank you.
Ian

I am guessing that your astig magnets are off. Those are the tabs on the main yoke. Make sure you take the silicone seals off before rotating the tabs, they are really brittle and will break off.

Thanks for the quick reply.
As you think it may be astig setup too, I now have the confidence to go ahead and try and improve that.
Thanks again.

On close inspection the stigmator ring on the red tube had (been) moved from its previous position. I was able to line up the ring using the remains of the silicon blob it had been fixed with. The focus of the red is greatly improved, with the best focus for horizontal and vertical lines in the test grid being the same.
I would imagine it would be very easy to make things worse adjusting stigmator/flare rings and would recommend anyone else trying it to clearly mark their original positions and even to take some photographs.
Hope this might help someone else too.
best regards
Ian
