Hello, i have a long time planned to buy an CRT Projector. And i have now found one that i think is good, however there some things i wounder over.

First of all, there i one problem with the Green tube. The tube was replaced with an sony new one in 2001 and has since then got 2000 hours on it. The seller says that the tube nowadays never get completely black, it always shines a little bit, i don't know how much since i have not watched the projector yet, he had been in contact with curt palme and he sad that it was possible that some sort of particles/dust has come into the wrong place and he suggested to run it some days to burn it away or something like that, the seller has done that with no result. Someone have an idea of whats wrong and could explain it more deeply? Is it an standard error that occur often?, how much does it cost to repair? change tubes? how much does it new tubes cost(not needed to very good)? hard to change?

Next question is about the price, the seller wants 700 dollar, the red and blue tube got 8500 and the green 2000 hours, the wear is almost none, between 8-9 on the curt palme scale,
And the picture show very little wear, is this an correct picture or is it possible that he has taken it in some special angle or so to hide wear?

Last question, is this an good projector to buy? error prone? is it due to fail soon? I will not use it much, say like max 200 hour per year (two movies per week) + time to calibrate and stuff like that, so even if its only 2000 hours left on the tubes it's long enough for me, also i only use like 70" screen, so i guess that as long as the tubes has not uneven wear it is possible to use bad tubes longer than if i had a big screen, since lower light output is compensated trough lower area to be lighten

I'm not an expert but I'd think if you waited you'd find something without problems for possibly much less.

You'd want to find out a little more about the green tube issue. If it is a setup issue then I would say the G70 is worth the $700, if it's a board issue it may still be worth the $700 but that would be getting close to my limit once I figured in the board repairs from Curt.

I agree if you wait longer and keep looking better deals are out there, but if this one is local and you can pickup and test in person that could very well be worth the extra expense.

I think I know this set, it's in Europe somewhere. Can't remember exactly who is selling it.

From the troubleshooting that we've done, it's a problem right in the green tube. It's possible you can live with the light output from the green when it's supposed to be black, it's also possible that the problem will go away in a few 100 hours, or worst case, a new tube is about $700 USD.

ecrabb, Thanks:)

Of course i must say where i am, I Live in Sweden in northern europe so i think the price here is a bit higher than US, partly because of the SEK being weak right now.

Well, i had not really planed to buy this set if the picture were not acceptable without fixing the issue, but it would any way be good to know a little bit about the issue, if it says: Hello i'm dead within 200 hour. i'm not going to buy it. If it is this particle/dust issue he was talking of, do anybody know what that is?, is it likely to get worse or is it stable? this types of question is of course somewhat hard to answer, but it would not be easier for me myself when standing there and looking on an crt projector for the first time in my life.

Probably some contamination in the Gun. I have succesfully fixed this once on a G70 using the Sencore CR-7000. Now if only there is someone close to you with a Sencore, then it would be an easy fix.

$700 for a new tube. Finding good used greens for the G70 is impossible, I'd have uses for 10 of them if I could find them.

Ok, I live in Umeå. Then I see why this machine would be of interest for you . Because if you would live down south I would have said that there is better deals to be found

I have read the ad to so I know which one you are talkin about.

Yes, it's pretty good to have the opportunity to see the pj live and having very low shipping and handling costs. I was on the way to look at the projector today but i wanted some extra time to think about it all. Also i have not completley figured out where i should have it in the room.

You could try running this defocused and at high contrast. Play around with rate of change and other parameters.
Do it at own risk though.

Oh and be careful. You can get dizzy and puke. Or worse.

For the price it's hard to tell if it's worth it.
