hi

i have a trusty old projector, used for hours a day every day for nearly 4 years now, even have 4 spare sets of tubes for it now however it has recently developed a fault that i am have a great deal of trouble sorting out, when powered on and cold the colours come out wrong (really wrong) like either exceptionally purple or green and if it is green there is a line the wraps it way down the screen, at present i am entertaining the idea it is about time i pulled the whole thing apart and replace the caps, but that seams a huge job, so i thought i would ask first has anyone seen this before, if so what caused it ps, if the projector has been on for about ten mins, and then i briefly turn it off and on again the picture comes up perfect, or it will suddenly come right after about 30 mins

Cheers

If its lines that go from side to side at an angle then they are retrace lines and the purple would be lack of green. So it sounds like you may have a green tube problem. Possible problem with circuit that feeds green tube but it usually doesnt change in that circumstance. Maybe if it was a poor solder joint somewhere. You may just want to try a green tube since you have spares and they aren't real difficult to change in that chassis.

Post a pix. I'm not sure if you're talking about convergence that is out of whack, or just the colors projected by the tubes.

If this does not get fixed very easily, I would not spend any money on it as you can get much better picture quality for not too much money.

true, but if I have the board, he can have it for more or less the cost of shipping. I'm clearing out my 10XX stock, may as well keep some sets going as long as possible..

this may well be true in the US, but have you tried shipping 40+kgs of anything internationally, i live in NZ and it is just a nightmare... also, i am flatting a live with 4 other people who arnt very techie, and to be fair i wouldn't trust them with a fancy projector and lastly it was only a month or two ago we got hi def broadcast tv here also, there are no fans in this pj so it is nice and quiet to run

now, back to the fault, i have tried a couple of time to get a pic of it doing it now, but guess what, as i said something it has now chosen not to do it Sad (or Smile depending on your point of view)

however, i can describe the fault better now having done some reading, when i turn the PJ on, the entire green tube is dully lit (there are areas outside the normal rasta lit) (in addition to its normal image - which can be seen fine) and there are re trace lines on the green tube, but as a said, as it warms up they go away

Cheers

Wait a sec. No fans? SOmething is wrong right there, the 1040 does have a fan, or three, I can't remember...

Sounds like the G2/focus block may be drifting, I've got those if you want one.

i'm sorry, i got my numbers wrong, its a 1020, and yes later in the series they did have fans (i have 2 1000s, but they are both dead at the moment, they dont power on, or at least they power on and then turn off right away with some fault i havn't had time to look into)

OK, it could be anything then. AS luck would have it, I threw out my last 1020 chassis last week, as no one has bugged me for parts for years. I might have a couple of boards left here for it, yours for the cost of postage.
