|
|
I'm doing a dedicated HT setup with my Marquee 8501. Right now it has a moome DVI card in it. I'm wanting to add gamma correction to the video chain (PS3 as source) - am I correct in assuming that there is no device that will sit between the PS3 and moome DVI card to correct gamma?
If this is the case, my best option is to grab the moome HDMI card right?
Thanks
Ben

Hi Ben, you could do it with a video processor or you could get a newer Moome card.

Hey Analog,
Video processor like a lumagen or something? It's probably more cost effective to go for the moome correct?

Thanks for the offer there Nashou, but I just noticed that the 1.3 card was on sale for $400, so I pulled the trigger... Now I play the waiting game!

For about the same price you could get a used Lumagen HDP which will give you that and much more.

hmm didn't realize the HDP could be had for so little now - I recalled them being somewhere around $1300 (granted that was new)
I've heard that the original moome DVI card had some issues with picture quality so I think upgrading to the HDMI card is still worth it - PQ is only as good as your weakest link.. Of course that statement is under the assumption that the Lumagen doesn't do a D/A conversion to RGBHV (which I heard it doesn't?)
At any rate I think the HDMI card is a good starting place and I can look at the lumagen as a christmas present or something!

From my testing the weakest link is inside the projector.
A DVI input card made no difference compared to the RGBHV run from my PC. A Moome ISS switcher card was worse (note the RGBHV run is still present with the switcher card).
But I can't comment on the latest HDMI card.

Yes, with falling prices and newer stuff the HDP (still a great VP) is pretty cheap these days.

This is true, I was never impressed with moome's early attempts.

It normally will not. However, if you use moomes other product between your sources and the Lumagen, it will.
