DWIN, like most of the true CRT projector manufacturers (Electrohome, Barco, NEC, Sony, etc.) built its model 500 and 700 projectors from the ground up instead of OEM'ing a chassis from a third party.
Curt takes the cover off and goes deep inside a DWIN 500/700 CRT projector to show you the location of all the parts, features, and controls. A must-read for any DWIN owner.
As of the time of this writing (August 2009), DWIN appears to be out of business, as their website is now a blank page. DWIN sold thousands of the DWIN 500 and 700 CRT projectors, which were very popular as they are very small and *extremely* quiet for data-grade (HD capable) projectors. Actually, quiet is probably misleading as the two models are actually, for all practical purposes, completely silent. The 500 has absolutely no fans in it (completely convection cooled) while DWIN added a tiny fan to the 700 power supply to offer slightly better cooling. The fan is completely inaudible unless you're a few feet away in a completely silent room. How many projectors can achieve that without a hushbox?
To see how the Dwin 500/700 rank in relation to other projectors for use in a home theater environment see the Projector Rankings page.
See the Advanced Procedures page for various DIY instructions on maintaining and improving CRT projectors.

We all know how much Curt likes to go deep inside.

The Dwins are amazing projectors. I believe they also have geometry and convergence signals that are generated by a DSP and go through DAC's to feed the end-stages. It has geometry and convergence behaviour I have only seen in the Barco Cine9 / 909. Unbelieveable!
When feeding it a new resolution, there was no need to do any convergence tweaks! It was dead on, all done by the mighty DSP.
There is some seriously advanced electronics under the hood, and if you see that they have achieved this with very little electronics components, I was really surprised.
In my opinion, if someone has the designs of this chassis, it could be tweaked into driving bigger tubes, then you could have the first completely DIY High-End CRT.

Any chance of you doing a full setup doc like you did for the NEC? The Dwin manual really bites.

Sorry no, the DWIN manual isn't bad, and overall the set is intuitive. There simply aren't enough out there to warrant writing more at this point, sorry!

Reinier helped me to do a proper convergence on my Dwin.(along with a color calibration)
I am very happy that Curt sold me one of the Dwin's (and that Reinier was living in my country). (the size and silence of the projector (and the image) keeps me amazed everyday ) And it has the highest wife acceptance factor of any crt projector I think

I saw one of these DWIN 500 projectors back in the mid to late '90s up close at an audio expo in Montreal and fell in love with CRT and the silence immediately. It's funny, at the time I thought it was pretty big.
They played the opening shot of the Jodie Foster movie 'Contact' (based on the fantastic book by Carl Sagan) where a camera slowly pans out from planet earth and things get quieter and quieter until there's about 60 seconds of no sound at all. It isn't until you notice how DEAD silent the Dwin 500 is that you appreciate what it does to the noise floor of your home theater.
Later that day I sat directly behind a Runco clone of the Barco 1209s. I reset my size expectations - that thing was a monster! Very quiet too (all things considered).
