I've been running into these quite a bit lately. They are blue in color and list their value right on the body. The question is, what does the letter that follows the value mean? For instance, the two over heated ones I'm looking at are 39K followed by what looks like a J. They are about 1/2 inch long and about 1/8th dia.
Thanks,

I think those are metal oxide resistors but not 100% sure.

Yep, those are the ones. They do test OK.
Now, same device different component to test. It's a diode with a funky number 2EZ5.1 Quick search comes up empty.
I'm still looking so I can test it. The control it came from is a Amtrol Boiler-mate smart control. Essentially a digital thermostat. They all seem to fail with the same symptoms and that is power related.

I figured that was what it was with the "Z" in the part number. How do I test it.

DMM on diode test. Should show some resistance in one direction and no flow in the other direction.
