Does anyone know ,from a PQ perspective, if its better for gamma correction to be part of your scaler like a Lumegan or a separate device like a Box 1020 etc?? or is there no difference.

Nash is spot on.
I had a vp50 and box 1020 (vp50 gamma sucks ass) the gamma adjustment you have on the box 1020 is the turn of a knob,it is effective to a certain extent and does perform well for the price however,if you want customizable gamma then you need a scaler which has point gamma controls such as the lumagen or do as I do and run a pc with videoeequalizer for custom gamma.
What are you doing for gamma ATM?
