My problem started about 3 months ago. I removed the lenses and tubes to make mounting to the ceiling easier. What a mistake this has become. While unplugging the red cables from the hv block or splitter I believe that its called. I did this wrong and pulled the cable and the boot away, and the connector end remained on the block. Somehow I even managed to break off the retaining tabs of the splitter. So anyway I fixed the ends on the cables. I mounted the splitter back into the projector. This is where it gets interesting. I turned on projector and heard a pooping noise. The projector shut itself off and now displays trouble code Fd. I am not sure what projector its. It says Runco and has a production date in 1999. On the front cover is the word ultra. It looks like the Nec xg pictured on Curts site. It has HD-8 lenses but no liquid between lenses and the crt. The block has two ground wires coming from it. One of the wires goes toward the front of the projector and was never disconnected. The other black wire is shorter and I disconnected it. I think that I have connected back in the proper place. I'm I dealing with a block failure or have I not fixed the cable ends properly. Any help appreciated. Thanks Brian

Fd is an HV error code. It can be the splitter or HV transformer (both very rare failures), or chances are your 'pooping' sound (I'm assuming 'popping', was an HV arc somewhere that then took out your HV board or the H deflection board beside the HV board.

Or, it could be a snapped tube neck. Sad

It's exceptionally rare that the HV splitter and transformer fail, I've had one set be bad, in Guy Kuo's projector. It would take the HV board out once a month, so I swapped both, and that cured it. Internal arcing I'd assume.

CHeck the tube necks first to see if any have snapped at the bell of the tube. I doubt it.

What you should do is pull the HV board and H board and send them in for repair. If they check OK, then I can send you back an HV transformer and splitter.

Sorry what? I was distracted as my skin does not glow, and I'm quite upset. Smile

Can you solder that back into place? That could be the problem right there. If not, send it up for sure, that needs some Dr's attention. Wink

B2 is lack of vertical deflection. Check the connectors on the V board, I'll bet you bumped one off.

Any time, but a V board issue isn't related to a split boot or the repairs I did. Check all of the boards in the card cage to see if something came loose. I can't see how an HV problem caused a V error. A V error is actually pretty rare in an XG, the V boards are usually pretty reliable.
