Hi all,
I'm completely freaking out here. I've been trying to fine-tune the setting for 10 hours now !
At a certain moment the picture was GREAT - only one small thing - the low half of the screen was just a fraction darker then the top half.
After 10 hours of randomly changing settings I can now choose to have double images, or a flickering screen.
Van anybody help me with this? It's time to start enjoying this thing
Thx
Setting with which I had a good image (if I paste them now in powerstrip the image is not correct at all ) :
PowerStrip timing parameters:
1920x1080=1920,164,208,188,1080,1,1,99,87750,520
Generic timing details for 1920x1080:
HFP=164 HSW=208 HBP=188 kHz=35 VFP=1 VSW=1 VBP=99 Hz=30
VESA detailed timing:
PClk=87,75 H.Active=1920 H.Blank=560 H.Offset=148 HSW=208 V.Active=1080 V.Blank=101 V.Offset=1 VSW=1
Linux modeline parameters:
"1920x1080" 87,750 1920 2084 2292 2480 1080 1081 1082 1181 interlace +hsync +vsync

Relax right click on the powerstrip icon next to the clock , go to display profiles then configure. select your display in powerstrip (there will be an up down arrow on the top with the display name).
*then select advanced timing options
*then select custom resolutions
*then select a 1080i resolution eg ati hd
you might want to increase the refresh rate to around 35
try the following setting and see (just to get something up on the screen)
Horizontal Vertical
40 36
169 20
64 5
295 20
All the ticks should be off except the interlace one
Hit add new resolution.
If the bottom is still dark look at the tube faces and make sure you are not going out side the tube face.

Thanks for your reply.
I've set the settings as you said... The image that appears is flickering, scrolling rapidly from top to bottom and (left an right) double ...
I'm using an Nvidia Geforce 9800GTX with a custom resolution of 1920x1200 and I made the sync's negative - this should be correct?

The setting I gave you should work in powerstrip (i tried). check the following.
*Make sure your cables are connected properly (both ends)
*Make sure you are adjusting the correct display in powerstrip. ( there are have been times where I have been adjusting my main monitor without knowing).
*try changing your source input

Why not try 1920x1080/30Hz. There's some standardized HDTV timings in the Powerstrip presets.

I've solved the problem for around 99% !!!
It seems that powerstrip does not work properly with the Geforce 9800GTX.
Now that I have connected the PJ to the secondary VGA card it works fine, except that the bottom half is still a fraction darker then the top half.
Any suggestions about that?
Could it be the VGA extension cable I used?
Thanks !!!

Could be, although usually an extension cable will give you ghosting at high resolutions. Post some pictures so people can see the problem.

Now that I have connected the PJ to the secondary video card the image is good - except for the above problem.
I will try to solve that at a later time.
However, a new problem has rised....
It seems that the secondary video card is to slow to play DVD's or HD movies. Not a biggy - I'm willing to buy a new video card.
But which one should I buy, keeping the following in mind:
- My primary video card is and will be the Nvidia Geforce 9800 GTX. The new video card has to be "compatible".
- The new video card has to work with powerstrip ... I have to be able to set the H and V sync to negative.
- Is has to be fast enough to play dvd's (upscale) and HD movies.
I've checked a local store, I can choose for one of these:
XFX GeForce 9500GT 550M 512MB DDR2 PCI-e
or
XFX GeForce 9400GT 1024MB DDR2 DVI PCI-E
or
SAPPHIRE HD3450, 512 MB
or
SAPPHIRE RADEON HD3650, 512 MB
What would you advice?
Thanks !
.... When everything is finally configured correctly I will post some pictures !

If you are not a hard core gammer I would go for the HD3650 as it's ATI and powerstrip tends to work well them. I think mine is a HD3870, it plays anything I throw at it and it resolves 1080i beautifully.

Great Thanks.
For my games I will keep using the Geforce 9800 GTX
I will not play any games on the PJ.
Will go to the shop tomorrow and pick one up.
If everything goes well I will also mount the PJ to the ceiling tomorrow.
Thanks again !

After 23 hours of sweating, tweaking, adjusting, buying parts, returning parts.. etc. etc...
My PJ is finally working on 1080i !!!
For those who are interested:
+ I was unable to use a ATI vga card with my primary Nvidia card. I now use a Nvidia 9600GT for the PJ.
+ I am not using powerstrip or any other 3th party software. Just the plain Nvidia advanced control center.
As promised, hereby the photo of the pj hanging from the ceiling:
If anyone is intersted in the settings I used, please let me know. I'll be glad to post some screenshots.
Thanks you all !

I have a BG808 and was never able to get powerstrip to do 1080i with the pj, got BSOD's all over. Once I uninstalled it, the ati control panel allowed me to do 1080i just fine and it looks great. I prefer 720p though, so after all the work went back to previous settings anyways.

hello,
i also have problems with my Geforce 8200 onboard video card and powerstrip.
in the Nvida Control Panel i can't check the box interlaced and with powerstrip i get a scrambled picture if i try to do interlaced. Anybody knows if the 8200 can do interlaced ?
tried an ATI HD2400 and it works fine with powerstrip and 1080i.
consider changing my motherboard
