Hello all,

I'm a complete newbie in the "projector world".
Just yesterday I bought my very first projector, the Barco 701S and I've just watched my first movie on it Cool

Now it's time to mount the projector to the ceiling.
I was wondering if it's possible to mount the projector in a "down" angle. This way, I do not need to change any (difficult for a newbie) hardware setting since I will not hang it up-side-down.

I would create a kind of table haning down from the ceiling on which I will put the projector.
The back of this "table" wil be 5 to 15 cm higher than the front, creating the down angle.

Is this possible? I do not want to do anything to harm the projector !
And if it is possible, will I be able to adapt the grid etc. so that the image is still correct?

Thank you so much in advance !

Best regards,

Sven.

I mount my Marquee this way. Although on a bookshelf (actually two of them stuck together)

Make sure you keep enough air above it for ventilation.

So you should be fine.

I don't know your complete setup but these things are designed at an angle already, pointing up when floor mounted. In most setups you would have to point it at an extreme downward angle to do as you wish and that will cause you to use too much electronic correction (leads to a less stable picture), and a horrible trapazoid burn pattern on your tube faces. Think about it for a minute is all I'm saying, it really is not that difficult to switch it to ceiling mount operation and redo the convergence.

I think this sort of thing only works with projectors that have Shleimphlug (unsure of spelling) or flapping adjustment. most projectors are designed to shoot upward at about 15 degrees or so from level and have very little room for variance with out the aforementioned adjustment. if you stray too far from level you end up with the top and bottom of your image blurred as the focal plane of the lenses will not be in alignment with your screen.
It would be a lot easier to just flip your image to ceiling projection and mount it accordingly than to do what you are thinking of and the picture will look a lot better.

Thank you all for your reply !

Ok, I guess the decision is made then. I need to change the projector settings to ceiling mount.

Can anyone tell me exactly how to do it? I can only find brief descriptions on the interwebz ... but nothing with pictures or something.

Thanks a bunch !

Sven.

Thanks for you reply.

I have checked and tried it. It seems pretty easy.
All I have to do is loosen the 2 screws on the back, lift the entire "mainboard"... en then I can turn the 3 connectors 180 degrees, correct?

One more question... when I look at the bottom of the pj, I see only 4 (I'm guessing M5) screw-holes.
Is that indeed enough to mount this entire thing to the ceiling? Confused -> Never mind, found a manual that confirms this .

Since I have one more question left now ... Cool

Do I need to flip it horizontally (blue & red) or vertically (yellow & green)?

Thanks again,

Sven.

Sorry Sven but I have an NEC 6 xtra and a Zenith PRO 900x, I wont be much help on your Barco. However, page 30 of the 701 installation manual available at the link above looked clear on flipping the image for ceiling mount.

I have a re-badged Barco 708 (Runco DTV-940). Just follow the diagrams on page 33/34 of http://www.curtpalme.com/docs/BarcoData701_Install.pdf for Front / Ceiling orientation.
