All was working fine until tonite (ie... no issues in last 6 months). I powered up the PJ and it sounded fine (powered up) but no picture. Looked round back and I have a h-fail red light on. So I turn off the PJ, pull the CLM in an out a few times but not fixed. Then I pulled the HDM in and out of the socket a couple of times and powered it up again. This time ok... but the unit said "Projector Initialisation Complete". Hmm... ok a little strange... so I change out the battery (from my spare CLM which has other issues).

Ok.. so I tried to put all the memories back from my PC via Serial port which it seemed to do... but unfortunately, the backup was so old, it seemed probably better to start from scratch again. So I reinitiaized the PJ again and started the geometry again. About 1/2 way through (about 1.5 hours later), the PJ powers shuts itself off, restarts itself and I get the following message... "Projector Initialization Complete"! ARGGGH!!!! Grabbed hammer immediately and just managed to stop myself wacking the top of the PJ.

Any ideas?

Clean all the socketed chips on the both the CLM and the DPB. also look closely to the small SMD capacitors next to the square shaped chips, these are the buffering capacitors, look for any cracked solder joints on them. A magnifying glass is need to see. I had the same issues while doing the capacitor upgrades on my CLM and a bad solder joint on one of the square chips buffering cap was the issue. if you cant find anything then a new CLM might be needed.

Also check the battery voltage. If it's under 3 volts.. change it!

all those caps should be replaced and it's one of the upgrade services I offer through the forum just for this reason. There's 18 tants on the main board and like 14 more on the DPB daughter board + 2 electrolytic's. They're all crap Surprised
A bad battery with internal short could do this too but if it's been swapped then probly no.

Bummer! Ok... I'll get the trusty magnifying glass out. Was hoping for a quick fix. I like the upgrade service you do Draganm, but I can't believe how costly it is to ship from Sydney, Australia to you and return!!!

I have one CLM that had issues (4 even horizonal bars across the screen... couldn't find any cracked joints), so I bought another. It was fine up until last night. I really do not want to get a third CLM... so I guess I try and fix this one. If I can't, I guess I'll have to send it to you Draganm to replace those caps. PJ has about 12,000 hours and 10,000 on standby. Tubes have been replaced.

Battery voltage is 3.09v. Problem still occurred after replacing battery.

Incedentally... I noticed that on my red tube, when I make focus around 0% and contrast 100% (when looking at a crosshatch pattern), the lines go to about 1.5 inch wide. Yet on the green and blue tubes, its about 3 inches wide. Draganm... will your mods have an impact on this? Blue and Red are about 8 and green about 7. G2 is around 63 Blue, 60 Green and 71 Red for reasonable greyscale.

the CLM by itself is not bad but the complete package would be pricey to ship because it's 10 Kilos. full insured USPS is showing $140. just for the return portion. sorry dude Sad
