|

Hello everybody.
A few days ago, I was watching a Video, but then there was a noise that sounded like a loud short-circuit "bang" coming from somewhere within the PJ and the tubes went black.
After a closer examination, I discovered that the HTHD LED is flashing quite rapidly.
In addition to this, the SCAN FAIL LED is also red. On the sync and vertical deflection module, the "no coincidence" LED is sporadically on, but not all the time while the source is active. I have not yet discovered a pattern to this.
On the horizontal deflection board the "Hold down deflection" LED looks to be on, it is not as bright as the other red LEDs however.
I have visually chekced the boards and none shows any obvious burns or caps that look strange. Also there is no distinct burnt smell
In another thread a similar symptom was described, but then without the SCAN FAIL LED being involved. For the other case, Curt stated that it was either the SMPS or the H deflection board.
Is it something similar in my case, or is there a more severe problem, as far as you can tell?
How much would it cost to get the board(s) fixed by you, Curt? (Alternatively: How much would spares be?)
Is there a chance to find out myself, which board is causing the problem? I am quite familiar with electronics, as I have built a few circuits myself, but a CRT PJ is slightly more complicated than what I have dealt with so far.
Thanks in advance,
Christian

Yes, usually the H board is shorted somewhere, causing an overload on the SMPS, or the SMSP is bad. Email me at curtpalme@shaw.ca for board pricing, and please send me the 762XXX board numbers on each of the boards. It might be simply cheaper to sell you two new boards since you're overseas.
Cheers!

@Curt: Thanks, you've got mail.
@all: If there are any other comments, they are appreciated, even though there is not much to be added to what Curt said.

Currently I am trying to find someone living in my area who has spare borads, so that I can test which one failed me. If I am finished with the diagnosis, I will post the results here, as there might be someone else having a similar problem in the future.
Thanks again for your help.

Okay, late reply, bute everything is worked out now. Both boards seem to have been defective. I first replaced the H-Board only, resulting in the sameerrors as before. Then I also put in a new SMPS, and whoah, problem fixed. I then swapped the new H-Board for the old one, to see if the error is still present with only the SMPS changed. This however resulted in the original problem again.
Thanks again for your help.
