|

I have a Y2k Runco 1100 essentially a modified Barco 1209s. It has one minor issue in that red convegence on the left of the screen is quite a bit off (almost one complete convergence grid line off) in the horizontal direction for the first 5-10 mins of operation. Other than that it is perfect and stable but it does sort of annoy me because none of my other lesser Barcos exhibited this behavior. Blue is perfect exhibiting little or no drift during warmup.
Though not a huge issue it did bother me and I had a spare projector so I swapped EVERY board in the set other than Port 5, Port 3 and the HV section and that made no difference. I thought it just must be something with my projector especially since it has 14500 hours but I was speaking to a friend who has a "true" Barco Graphics 1209s also from the year 2000 and it has less than a 1000 hours on his and he says his does the exact same thing. Anybody else notice this behavior on their late model Barcos/Runcos or have any other insight?
I have been through all the obvious issues such has mechanical and electronic setup and everything is ok and I am not pushing any of the controls to the exterme.

Since the rule of thumb with CRTs is a 20 minute to 45 minute warmup time, I'd say it's normal, just turn the set on 10 minutes before you run it. I've been testing any number of CRTs in my own HT, and all exhibit some drift to some extent. It will vary from set to set, but I also start watching right away when turning a set on, so I notice it a lot.

Thanks! Yeah I usually just start watching right away. I figured this might be normal but it is just odd than the out of 8 Barcos this was is significantly worse than any other by quite a margin. The whole left third of the screen is out in the horizontal direction by quite a bit but on the bright side within 10 mins its perfect so I can live with it. The owner of the other 1209s has had a fair number of Barco in his time and like me he has never seen one quite as bad as his either.

I have a 2002 Runco 1101 with 5000 hours on it,the left third of the screen is off a fair bit in the vertical plain upon start up.Yes it's annoying but I've become accustomed to switching it on 10 mins before watching so it's not an issue anymore.
You're not alone.

My 1100 was built in 12/99 and it has never done this red convergence drift as long as I have had it. It's off a little bit (2-3mm) when it starts up but it's perfect after a minute or two.

@huggy thanks that sound just like my problem. At least I am not alone.
@jkruger That is interesting so we have 3 y2k or later that do have this problem and the earlier ones don't seem too. My friend with the 2000 Barco Graphics 1209s used to have a 1999 Barco Data 1209s that did not have this problem. The shift on my screen is probably a third of an inch at starup but goes to 0-1mm by 10-12 mins of operation. All the shift is on red and only on the left 1/3 of the screen.

Could this be related to the newer EHT module /Quadrupler /Splitter? I do not recall whether mine has it or not.

Splitter maybe but my Runco has been retrofitted with the old quad and EHT. I am in the process of swapping out each individual convergence boards from a 1997 Data 808s that did not exhibit this problem. I have already the swapped the astig and convergence output boards and neither helped the drift but the convergence output board did fix what I thought was the horizontal ringing every Barco I have seen has on 1080p/i but which turned out in this case to be the convergence output board. I now have 0 ringing at all on my Runco. Score! I can live with the drift not to have any ringing. The only board left is the front convergence board. If it isn't that I give up and live with the drift.

Just thought I would update this thread. I have replaced all three boards in the convergence tray and this had no effect on the drifting behavior. I still don't believe this is normal but I am not sure what to do next. I may try pulling the CoG board and see if that makes any difference. One I think I did note is that the COG board on these later Runco/Barcos has both CoG and horizontal linearity built-in. Also the front board in the convergence tray under the CoG is different than those used earlier (well actually it looks the same other than the ICs but it has a different part number) but the older board out of a 808s Data worked fine.
