image ghosting at 1080i on an ecp 4100

Here is the problem,

Sony Bluray to hd fury into ecp 4100 set to 720p gives nice image., When the bluray is set to 1080i, and the projector is re-converged, at dark scenes, the image seems to smear briefly . Why does the projector do this at 1080i??
