Did the Vidikron Vision One have the anamorphic squeeze mod done from the factory?

Based on my own experience, the Vision One is modded to allow 16:9. It needs further modding to enable anamorphic squeeze.

Can someone explain what is "anamorphic squeeze" and why is it necessary to mod a Marque. I have a G70 so I'm just curious about this.

Marquees were designed to display 4:3 images. The vertical-size adjustment doesn't "squeeze" the image short enough to make a 16:9 raster. The squeeze mod replaces 3 resistors that changes the range of the vertical-size adjustment so you can squeeze the raster into a 16:9 or (I think) even a 2.35:1 aspect ratio.

schmoe, I'm not sure what you mean by "it does 16:9 but needs mods to enable anamorphic squeeze" ?

Thanks Gary. For years I've seen Curt mention he always modifies the Marques before shipping them but never understood exactly why it was necessary.

Yes they were . If you are going to try 2.35 AR you will probably have to further mod it.

I was just getting ready to reply how those Hacks at Vidikron didn't do anything except put a fancy case on, wrap the High Voltage leads in Electrical Tape, and move the grounding straps on the neck-boards from the spark arrestors to the circuit board (VERY stupid) . Then I went and looked an lo and behold there is a modification to the VDM. Here's the wierd part, instead of replacing the resistors at R704,804, and 904 like the traditional squeeze mod, the replaced R711,811,911.
Does anyone have any additional info on this?
BTW, it was a crappy job, soldered from the top of the board and flux left on the joints, so they're still Hacks.

I wasn't very clear. I meant what Bruce said later:

The original resistors i think were either 30k or 42k to get more adjustment for 1.78 you had to increase then to 54k, and now for further adjustment to get 2.35 you need to go to 68k. all on the R704,804,904. I know you can do the mod on both the 704 or the 711, from older post on AVS i think there is not much a difference.
