Is CA(RG) boards from different models can be used on Sony 12xx series? It looks like there are several versions of this board and I am not sure if I can use CA board from other models. I have 1270 and my board number is 1-629-813-13.

12x2 CA swaps I have found no issues...

I also successfully used
1270 CA RG board on a 1252 (I can look up the particular part #'s if you need)

1270 vs other 12xx models have some differences in the CA(B) board for the AKB but can still be used if careful.

If possible use a matched set of CA boards CA(RG) and CA(B) for best results.

on my 1252 I found the 1270 CA boards I tested to be a step-back giving a softer image.
the 1270 CA boards had VPH-05 video amps where the later boards from 12x2 with VPH-06 gave a sharper picture.

Waterlily. Thanks for your reply. It looks like other model's CA boards can be used on 1270. But I am not clear on the AKB thing. What do I have to do about AKB when I use other CA boards? Can you explain this more? Thanks.

you should be ok if just replacing CA(RG) I would still recommend you replace both CA(RG) and CA(B) together.

There are some differences in CA(B) relating to AKB:

For 12x2's:

On the 1252/72 wiring goes from the main motherboard to the small CFB board in the metal shielding above the CA boards.
Then from the CFB board it is split into two separate wirings to connectors cab-7 (13 pin yellow/orange connector) and cab-8 (4 pin black connector) on CA(B)

1270 CA(B) does not have a 4 pin connector labeled cab-8, dunno if CFB board is present or the same as 12x2.

I think on 1270 wiring from mother board goes directly to CA(B) cab-7 ? NEver seen a 1270 1st hand.

CFB board is not really needed, it is pretty much a passthrough, on 12x2 it allows for taking readings for G2 adjustment and only provides for enabling/disabling AKB via a jumper.

on 12x2's you can bypass CFB board anyway and plug the wiring from the motherboard directly into CA(B) cab-7

I have tested successfully a combination of 1270 and 12x2 CA(RG) and CA(B) boards on my 1252, the 12x2 boards are better with higher bandwidth vph-06 video amps, specially the later part numbers I found to soften the picture less at higher resolutions.

Hope this helps,
