I recently bought a D-VHS machine and it worked when I got it but now it won't power up. Someone here was talking about the same thing recently and I can't remember who it was but they left it plugged in and it came back to life. Is this a bad capacitor ore something?

It might be a capacitor that dried up. Some capacitors can heal themselves when power is put back into them. But might as well replace them all in the power supply. Its one of the simplest maintenance procedures to do on older equipment, or equipment that is showing some signs of erratic behavior.

I had a kenwood stereo receiver that would take forever for the amps to start to produce sound. replaced a bunch of caps in the power supply and the ones around the amps and viola instant sound.

Might be something along the same lines.

I had a DVD player that did that, and it was a software/chip lock-up... very weird either way. Hope you find the cause and solution. Did you check to see if there were any recalls or other customers making the same complaint for your model?
