a local craigslist post really caught my eye. Any opinions? :
I purchased the TV July 2005 brand new. The model number of the TV is WS-73615. The TV has always worked with no problems. A few weeks ago when we turned the TV on everything had a green tint to it. I didn’t notice but I am guessing that is because I am color blind. The TV is somewhere around 400 lbs. I am sending this email to everyone who emailed me about it. There is about 5 of them. I am trying to get $200.00. The first to call me and make a deal will be the person I am selling it to.
I want to jump on this. it sounds like a bad tube.

It sounds like it could be a bad tube, you'd want to make sure you could get a replacement for a reasonable cost. It could also be something in the electronics gone bad. If you're willing and able to tear into it I'm sure the experts here could help you get it going.

Could be a tube, could be the output amp, cold be the focus and/or screen control block, may only need the screen control adjusted. hard to say without more investigating. I'm sure I would of bought it already but maybe 200 is to big of a gamble for you. Let us know what you decide......

About three years ago I had some strange video anomalies on my Mitsubishi WS-65907. At first I thought it was the source, but the intermittent frequency of the problem took a while to test against several sources. Started with a D* STB, then a DVD player, etc.
Since I was close to the 2nd extension warranty expiration, I called Mits and they sent someone out. He didn't take long and immediately replaced all of the STK amps. Problems solved--and never seen again. I say bring a laptop and plug it in and see what you see. Also keep in mind about uneven phosphor wear.

yeah if the 9' tubes are worn, that makes the unit just about worthless. what is an easy way to check for phospher wear with out taking the thing apart?

I've seen RP sets with 20K hours on them with minimal wear. If this is a 9" set, run, don't walk to grab it, ask questions later. I saw one of the 9" sets at Cliff's place, it was one of the nicest RP sets I've ever seen.
THe RP sets use the phosphor right to the edges of the tubes, so wear is minimal. I have personally put 10K on the Barco retro 808s I have here, and despite a bit of blue smear that only I notice, the set has 42K hours on it and is running fine, no tube wear. Mind you, I run contrast and brightness at around 40.
