TV/Projector: Vidikron VF40 HD

Posted: Sat Apr 11, 2009 3:51 am    Post subject: CRT newbie really messed up?

I have a Vidikron VF40HD. Fianlly got the thing mounted. did my first shot at lining everything, up and actually watch Quantam of Solace on it, though not great but I was pretty proud of myself never having touched one of these things.

Finsished the movie. Unplugged everything and then tried to put the guard back on to close it up and touched something on the red tube! Now the tube won't come on and the other 2 are just scanning away!

Does this mean the tube is dead? Or the whole CRT??

Argg! should have left the guard off!

Any help is much appreciated.

Turn the power off, get a flask light and compare the red tube to the other 2 tubes and see what you knocked off. Sounds like something came loose.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't this vidikron the same as an ECP if so could he have hit the red tubes cut-off switch by the focus board?

You would know better than I since you are staring into one right now. Wonder if there's a picture of that in the ECP section of the forum?

Although if he's not getting a picture on the other two tubes I would still suspect he knocked something in there. Maybe it's time to turn the power off and re-seat the circuit boards and connectors.

I stayed up to about 2:30am crawling around this thing. Iwas afraid I touched the circuit board at the back of the red tube. The sheet metal guard is VERY close to those boards on this thing. I wouldn't think it would have hurt anything with the power off though.

I will look to see if I hit the switches and thanks for that. I didn't even know they existed!

Sheesh, does everything you do have to do with drinking? Mr. Green

Not sure what you meant by your first post. THe G and B tubes are working fine, the red is dead? You might have nuked something on the red PC board. If so, I'll get you one.. cheap. I've got lots. Figure on $45 incl shipping for another one. Check the switch first though.

Directions on how to get a flask light...

1) fill a flask with rum (a flask is heaviest when it is full)
2) drink most of the contents

Very Happy

Hey, it was a freudian slip. I actually saw it but figured my brain must be telling my fingers something different than I intended. So I left it so you guys can make fun of me Very Happy

Hmmmm Southern Comfort. You that goes nice with a working projector and a good action movie. Wink

Just remember kids, when using your flask light keep the cap on while looking inside your projector. You may empty the contents prior to looking insdie the projector but quality of workmanship deminishes by the time your flask light is empty.
