Lost this week was really dark. The lower IREs were almost completely gone. When commercials came on it seemed fine so it appears to be just the program.
Any one else notice this? I'm curious if it was a national thing or just a problem with my local affiliate.

Lost always looks dark to me. I'm not sure if it's the way they shoot or treat it, but it always looks dark on the low end. I'm on DirecTV, but I didn't notice anything different from usual.

Curse you "Lost" fans! About three weeks ago, my buddy needed me to come over and help him move something. When I got there, he had just got finished watching the episode he DVR'ed and asked me if I was a fan. I told him no and that I didn't want to get hooked on anything. Actually, I had heard about it but thought that people being stranded on an island wood just flat out be stupid! He handed me the disc sets of the first three seasons and told me to take them with me. After staring at them for a few days, I decided to pop one in to see what all the hype was about. Damnit!!!! That's all it took! My wife and I are now like a couple of crack-heads staying up until 2 or 3 in the morning, after our son goes to bed, watching this damn thing. We are on disc four of the second season and can't get enough.
Anyways, can't comment on the televised episodes, but the discs look fine!

It looked fine here in Canada on Bell ExpressVu HD. I watched it on ABC-HD.

Yeah, it is definitely addictive. We have watched it from the start so our fix has been a weekly titration with occasional multi-month bouts of detox during hyatus.
I can imagine if we had a full 3 season supply at once it could get bad. Sometimes you just have to put down the pipe.
And yes SC, I've also noticed in general it is dark (along with some other shows) but it jumped out at me this week as being so bad it angered me. Part of the intimacy of a scene is being able to see an actors eyes and there were way to many moments when you just couldn't see them both. I realize sometimes the director does the one eye lit from the side thing for effect but no way it could have been that often.
I've thought about waiting to get the BluRays but this show you would never get away with that without spoilers. I guess I'll have to put up with it because we gots to have our Lost.

Hmmm.. Must have been a local affiliate issue, then.
We've been watching it since the beginning, too. The first season or two was horrible when they'd do the fits/starts thing where you'd see a new episode or two, then a rerun or two... Arrgghhhh!!!! We did the DVD thing with Sopranos when it came out... That was fun... Start watching them, can't stop... Must... turn off.... go... to .... bed.
A few times, I've had to stream it on ABC.com.... The local affiliate would shift it to a later time slot to show the Iowa State men's basketball game... That wouldn't be a problem, but for whatever reason, they wouldn't throw the switch back to HD... Bastards. The streamed version sucks compared to OTA, but it was better than a sh*tty SD zoomed version. Blech... Don't mess with my LOST, dammit! It's the one, single, solitary show on TV I give a damn if I see.
Well, enjoy it while it lasts, boys! Just a few more shows, and then one more season - and then it's all over!

I watch it OTA in HD and it looked fantastic. I didn't notice that it was any darker than normal this week. I wonder if you watch the online stream of it, would it look different? At least that might tell you if it was a local issue or not. Or perhaps that introduces so many variables it's not a good test.

Yes, lots of questions to answer, so little time.
Doc - Not sure if you know about the wiki-like site for Lost fans:
http://lostpedia.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page
Obviously you would have to be careful what you read to avoid spoiler info but the depth and detail of the story that is layed out here is pretty facinating. One way to avoid spoiler info would be you can hit the "History" link on any detail page and go back a couple years or so to access historic info more appropriate to a viewer at your point in the series.
If you ever feel as though too much of your life is being taken over by Lost, just look through that site and realize how Lost the contributors are in Lost. You will feel better in no time.

I can't believe Kate and Hurley hooked up. Also, who would have thought that Jack and Charlie are gay and found each other on the island.
I am addicted and for me at least the show just keeps getting better. In retrospect, the first season was good, but I usually wet myself after the current episodes. The only thing I have ever had against this show is when my best friend lost an animation award to the series premiere episode.
