I'm running VP50->HDMI->HDFury2->RGBHV->PJ. I'm using temporary cables right now and I'm getting ready to buy the final set. The distance from the VP to the PJ is let's say no more than 12'. Question is: for my setup, would it be better to run a long digital hdmi cable and a short analog rgbhv cable, or vice versa?

I'm leaning towards long digital as they are cheaper and smaller (i.e. easier to hide behind molding, etc.). Thoughts?

While we're on the topic, I have a second question. If I go the long analog route, I have this component+audio 5-RCA RG-6 18AWG 75Ohm cable that could be used if I slap on some RCA->BNC adapters. Is there any reason this would be a bad idea? The video portion of the cable is lower guage than the audio portion, 18 vs. 26 awg respectively.

I'm using an inexpensive 25 ft HDMI cable from the player to the Fury 1 and then the supplied short RGBHV and port three adapter cables from the Fury to my Barco's. About 6 inches long. So far I have not needed the supplied transformer with the Fury1 and a 25ft run.

Personally I would run both just in case. At least that's what I did anyway. I still have a few RGBHV sources.

Long HDMI (digital) vs long RGBHV or Component (analog) is a question that comes up a lot. The short answer is: As long as you use good quality cables it doesn't really matter.

Poor HDMI cables (especially longer ones) will result it data errors/dropped data that typically results in 'sparklies': little dots that dance around the screen. If they're really bad you'll get no image at all.

Poor analog cables will result in ghosting or smearing of the image. You'll typically always get some form of image.

We typically tell people that already have good quality RGBHV (or component) analog cables installed to NOT replace them. If you're starting from scratch, a long HDMI cable is usually a better idea because it's usually cheaper.

Is this going through conduit ? If so how big and can you pull an RGBHV cable in along with a HDMI cable easily ?

I haven't quite decided yet. I was leaning towards the lazy route of running it behind some crown moulding. The portion coming down from the ceiling would likely be in a conduit of some sort. The other option is cutting open the drywal and drilling lots of holes through lots or floor/ceiling joists and snaking the wire that way.

Why should I run both?

What if the HDMI cable fails and you need to replace it or you need a RGBHV run ? I would have run a 4 inch PVC dedicated conduit run.

But that's just me and this does not sound like an HT from scratch...I guess I just expect the unexpected, something to do with Murphy...
