Saw a reference to moving dollys etc in Nashou's thread, and need to share this, as it was a stroke of brilliance on Friday.

I went to get a Vision One locally, c/w road case. Those that have seen the road cases for the Vision ONe know that they are massive, heavy, and insanely hard to move by one guy. Worse yet, I was getting this out of an apartment with no elevator, from the third floor. I didn't even know if the road case would fit in my Rav 4.

So I get there, and much to my surprise, the 30 year old seller who got this thing on trade through his a/v company that he works for had enlisted 4 friends to move the damn thing to the downstairs lobby. Yeah! Thumbs Up

So we tilt the case on it's side, as that's the only way it would fit through the door (and into the Rav), which is parked across the street, over two curbs, etc.

THe one guy grabs his... skateboard (!), throws it under the road case, and off I go, steering the skateboard with (almost) one hand on the road case. Over the curb, across the street. I shouted 'OLLIE!', but nah, I didn't risk it. Wink Made the skaters laugh though!

Anyways, I'd never used a skateboard to move a 300+ lb case. It almost (but not quite!) makes me want to take up skateboarding. Mr. Green

Sweet! Whatever works! Did you grind a little curb on the way over? Wink

I moved my 1271 across the room on top of my shop vac! Took the top off so I had a nice flat surface. Dead lifted the 1271 onto the top, tweaked it a little to center the mass, and rolled it ~20 feet. Worked like a charm, but I don't think the casters on the vac will ever be the same again. Wink

Yep. I commandeered my boys' skateboard years ago. They don't even call it a skateboard any more... they call it the projector mover.

I'm crazy, I moved my 10PG maybe fifty feet, through two doorways and up a few steps all by myself. I was determined to get it into my theater and set up asap.

You've got it. The 8500 wouldn't fit. Wink

Sigh, I knew you geeks would ding me on that. Smile Obviously the projector in the trebuchet is a Sony, but we're trying to help Athanasios move two 8500's here!

I'm sure the trebuchet could move both of them. It's just a matter of having enough dead weight in the counterweight basket. Say, maybe, 3 or 4 dead G90's?? Mr. Green

HOLY SCHITTT !!!!! How did those get inside!!!!! Very Happy

Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

here is how I moved them in:

Tipped the box on end with the lens side up against the dolly.

then I had to get them up these steps.... My moms Dog Tequilla, i'm dog sitting, was no help. !!

I got up two steps and could not get a good grip with my feet and almost lost it.... but right at that moment when i was taking a break and trying deperately to find a footing where there was no salt my Tenant and his two friends (who are all teamsters) ran over and helped me get them into the house!!! Wheeeeooouuuu!!!!! Talk about in the Nick of time!!!

I've used skateboards to move heavy objects around for as long as I can remember.

The best "dolly" skateboards are 80s type "old school" "pig boards" with 8 to 9 inch trucks and
70mm Kryptonics Classic K wheels, which are big, soft, resilient, and easily go over bumps that
small, hard wheels would just use as chocks and quit moving.

I have an old Tony Alva with Traker trucks and Saw blade wheels with swiss bearings. Very Happy

Dam, I have absolutely no idea what any of that means. Is it still a skateboard?

Geeze I thought I was geek enough to get any reference. Looks like I'm not.

When I first read that I saw brown-trout. I wonder......do they swim upstream? Laughing

O.K. I 'll spill, a Browncoat is like a Trekie only with Firefly and Serenity followers. Can't stop the signal was the battle cry of Firefly followers to keep the series going and is what helped get Serenity made into a movie.

If you have not seen Firefly or Serenity your really missing out. It is not for every one,but if you like Star Trek or Stargate or Starwars, give it a try.

My little part to keep the signal going.

A/R I thought my avatar would have given me away. Looking at your avatar I'm guessing you'd like Firefly.Lets be honest A Clock Work Orange isn't a main stream movie either. It's damned good and should have been, but is not for everyone. I dig it though.
