Hi I'm back. Changed my mind on the barco. I am looking at a 9500lc ultra it has 49,255 hours in standby but only 3900 on tubes. green and blue show slight wear this just sounds wrong at $3000.00? No warranty any ideas? Thanks. Confused noob.

On that note where do you get new tubes from? And about how much are they? A good guess is o.k.

$1650 each from VDC last I checked.
$3K for an as is 9500 non Ultra is too high at this point. I could do a Vision 1 with about 6000 hours on it, light wear for $3800 with a warranty, modded and fully tested.

Thanks Curt, the $3000.00 was asking, not what I was going to offer. There is a Vision one for sale with scaler for asking $2000.00 And yes I know I am a CHEAP s.o.b.

Remember that the green c element can disguise the wear somewhat. If the wear area isn't large and even you will probably want a new tuibe if you are anything like me. In fact I would be extra cautious about buying a projector with any wear if you are not sure what you tolerance is for it. I am a lot less golden eyed than most around here and anything other than an 8 wear wise (and that being broad and even) drives me nuts. Also maybe I am a cheaper b----rd than you but I wouldn't even give 2k for a projector that might need one or two tubes. Don't be penny wise and pound foolish as they say. Surplus projectors without warranty are rarely bargain unless you get one screaming deal. I have played the surplus game and have lost and won and in the end come out ahead but I did that by getting things for 1/3 or less the going retail (known reseller with a warranty) and in most instances it was even less than that.

Thanks SECSTATE,nicely cleaned langauge.I am trying to come in under $1500.00 on the purchase allowing for wear so it can be retubed all cost under $3000.00. Seems hard to do but I have time. What I am looking at are projectors that were in homes not the surplus ones, which I would not give a few hundred dollars for ,as I have learned from all the helpful members here.

Standby on Marquee is video mute, everything except the Phosphor is active. That many hours on the gun will lead to poor light output and electronic focus.

WTF was Electrohome thinking when they designed the projector that way, dragan?!?!? So, if you leave the thing plugged in and turned off with the remote (aka "standby"), you'll rack up 8,500 hours on the cathode every year? I assume it's also sucking at least 150w or 200w 24/7 then, too. So, do all you Marquee guys have to use a hard power switch or something to turn the damn things off???

Good catch draganm if those are original tube they are probably close to dead even without phosphor wear. The photo is too far away and with flash to determine tube condition. Also that would be one heck of a drive for you to inspect and the buyer's feedback is not exactly perfect. I don't think the buyer is going to come down to a price that would make this all worthwhile.

SC | NO This has been covered a thousand times. Off is OFF, in order to acrue stand-by hours in the hour counter you have to push the STANDBY Button, it's right next to power button, bottom right of remote. Their mistake was labeling the button as stand-by, it should read MUTE. People misunderstood this and would leave the PJ muted for months, still fully powered up.
I actually send people a simple to follow set-up guide for their Marquee's. 7 pages long and covers the very basics. This is line 11
| Quote: | 11) Finally, a couple of important buttons on the remote. Right next to power is stand-by, This is Video Mute . If you take a 30 to 60 minute break in a long movie, use Stand-by. The PJ will remain fully powered up but the Phosphor will be off and it’s easier on the power supply’s to use stand-by for short intervals. If you plan to come back the next day to finish the movie then turn the PJ OFF.
You will notice that when turned off and plugged in there are 2 small fans running slowly in the power supply, this is normal. I use a Tripp Lite power surge protector that kills the AC to the machine with a button after I turn the power OFF. It’s ok to leave it plugged in also. Do not use the Tripp Lite to turn off the machine while it’s running, use the remote. |

Yes this is very true. I would bet anything if that projector has not been re tubed the light output would be reduced noticeably .
High hour marquees can still look pretty good but this where you see the lower light output and poorer focusing units .
The electronics have 50,000 hours on them, Are you close enough to go see the unit ?

So $1500.00 means most likely I would be buying crapola needing new crt(s) and who knows what else?

If the G2's are in the 60's it's fine and has been re-tubed. If they're in the high 70's then those are tired tubes.
Also, I would re-cap the convergence module, the video neck-boards, the Vertical and Horizontal modules, and possibly the Control Module. Give all the other connectors a good de-oxing. clean off any high voltage residue (soot) in the chassis and your good to go.

I would love to do that but, 2800 miles to test something seems a bit much.

That is if first you get him to cut his price in half
Flip side To this is , It is One of the cheapest and newest 9500's out there, and maybe it was retubed 1500 hours ago .
Still nine years old and has 53,000 hours on the electronics , but the tubes will have some output and sharpness .
If you buy please don't come back as an expert claiming Marquees are not bright and have poor focus

Have you checked out those NECs on ebay from computermorgue? He is in Maryland somewhere. You could probably drive over and take a look.
