i know this has been posted somewhere else but just wanted a little bit of advice.
i get unsupported disc with blu ray.
i am using vista 32bit
32" lcd hd ready TV
geforce 7950 gt (hdcp compliant) graphics card.
i read that the software that came with the drive is no good.
so just wanted to know what would be best to get the blu ray drive to play blu ray discs?
regards
luke

IMO that is an untrue statement. I currently run the retail version of PowerDVD Ultra 7.3 but for several months I did use the bundled version because I misplaced the serial number of the retail package. When running the bundled I had no issues, after installation you do should apply the latest patches from the Cyberlink webside.

My LG combo drive has been a PITA from day one. Some days it works, some days it doesn't. Seems to be finicky about the latest updates or something. I'm going to buy a dedicated BD player.

Mine is rock solid.
I use to to convert BDs/HD-DVDs to MKV and occasionally play direct from disc using MPC-HC.
PowercrapDVD is not even installed. It is a disaster area.

i gave up.
think i will have to get another motherboard.
the motherboard is an asus a7a266-e Athlon XP1600
so to raise this money i am selling my geforce 7950 gt 512mb gddr3 graphics cards.
i am so annoyed
i have tried all the software: powerdvd 7.3, AnyDvd, Arcsoft totalmedia theatre...
none work with the blue ray.

Sounds like your CPU is way to slow. I use an Athlon 4800 X2 overclocked and at stock speed it is marginal for BD. I also use a 7950gt card.

An Athlon 1600 running Vista? Jesus, it's amazing the thing even got to the desktop, much less playing bluray!

I use a dual core 4400+ AMD to play bluray.
Kai told me that a friend of his got it foing on an Athalon XP 3200 with a next gen ATi card but I'd say that would be the barest minimum.

I tried the same and had it running...not well enough to watch, but running....right to the computer shop
a quad core 6600 took care of that problem and with the X1650pro video card it runs fine.
