HI all

Just wondering where and how much red and green C elements will cost,I'm thinking of staking or blending
my 1101 Mr. Green

and realize that not all 1209's come with coloured c elements.
Just in case something good comes up,I don't want it to be a deal breaker by only having the clear elements.

Dave, you have a Runco right?

It already has filtered C elements I believe.

Yeah...but if he gets a stock 1209s he's gonna need some c-elements.

Dave the only source readily avaliable are from donor Sony 1292 tubes. The 'last' 3M reds were gobbled up here a number of months ago. VDC will sell you some, only if you get your tubes from them. I think guys like Eisemann may have a few around.

...as I say 1292.

...oh and COG modules for both, and SEMU too

Right now I have one green spare element off a 1292, that's it. All my reds are sold right now. I might have a line on some used 1292s, but being on the East Coast, shipping is insane. Not sure if I'm buying them. Once I find out where the sets are, I might get someone here to inspect them and pull parts, if that ends up being an option.

$150 for the green element I have here.

Can the clear elements be dyed? What is the material?

That would be the key, wouldn't it? Iv'e thought about the same thing myself, does anyone know if the element is dyed on the surface, or if the whole element is tinted?

Mine looked like acrylic material, but I can't recall if it was colored thru the material or just at the surface. Colored acrylic rod and plate is available too if you want to make some new ones.

Get me the dimensions or send me a clear one and I can make them. I make acrylics lenses and windows for underwater cameras and strobes.

Jk, if you need a spare C element to work with, I can send down a scratched clear one. All the 9" C elements are the same when it come to the different manufacturers. THe very old analog 9" sets with plastic lenses had a different curvature to them than the later sets that all used the HD 10 and later all glass lenses.

They will be polycarbonate probably.

Moulded in the correct colour.

I wouldn't get your hopes up about dyeing them, but I hope to be proved wrong.

I have seen C-elements melted by the sun, and the whole element is tinted.

They can be dyed in a heated solution, I read about it on a an optics site i was researching while trying to find someone who can add AR coating to a lens element on my HD10GT17's that were all scratched in shipping Sad

but ...they have to be a slightly larger size than the final size, they use a formula to figure out the expansion and contraction of the material to allow the color to flow into the optics material when heated and then cools . So an existing lens could not be colored with out it shrinking a bit i believe if i understood the explanation of the process.

If the material has not been annealed previously then there will be some shrinkage. The trick is to anneal the material first and then machine and polish it. Then it can be dyed the correct color density. I'm pretty sure we can do this.

I cant find the one company but this one has some interesting readings about different coatings. I am not sure if they can coat the plastic C-elements but maybe they can make a thin piece of glass to cover the face of the tube. We can maybe place a piece over the tube surface like the AC tubes have the clear glass with glycol in between.
