I just got a used Sony VPH-1270 CRT projector.

I know one concern with CRT technology is burn in. While I doubt this will happen on my old CRT tv, the CTR tubes in the projector are displaying at much higher intensity.

I am just wondering if it is safe to run my video game consoles on this? Or is the potential for burn in too great? And if it is safe, for what period of time would it be okay to have a static hud displayed for?

Thank you for your assistance!

You should be fine unless you are regularly playing games prone to burn in (tetris, guitar hero...) with high contrast. Don't worry about it too much.

Turn your cntrast down below 64 and don't try to run too big a screen. ( 7 foot wide is reasonable 5-6 foot wide looks great! )

I play back some full screen video for a while after gaming on my CRT's. Somehting with NO logo's in the corner of the screen.

What console(s) do you have and how do you have it hooked up to the projector?

Ps3.

Currently it will be hooked up to a doubler via composite, and from the doubler to the projector.

I do not have any fancy HDMI->RGBHV converters.

My only concern is pretty much all games have some sort of HUD displayed constantly during the game.

Ahh a doulber will work but so would the HDFury1 with the RGBHV cable then you could run 720P and 1080i right from the pS3. No need for the HDFury power supply either. Only other thing you would need is a HDMI to DVI cable.

As for the HUD. I was paranoid at first but if you keep the contrast low and don't crank up the brightness too much you should be ok.

I would agree - if you have any spare cash pick up an hd fury or hd fury gamer edition. Run it at 1080i and it will be much better than your line doubled 480i via composite.

Gamer will work but then you would still need the RGBHV brealout cable no longer than 6 inches and a HD15 to HD15 gender adaptor to connect it all.

LOL Good one Graham Thumbs Up

I've been known to abuse my 1252. I ran it on a 40deg C day for 5 hours. Flawless> Workhorse.

I see there is a HDFury2 as well for $150 more. Is the original HDFury good enough? Its not too bad at $100.

The HDFury 2 has a few more features but you probably won't use them like component output ( YUV ) and stereo audio out ( which you can already do with the PS3 ) most people just run the PS3 to the S/PDIF input on their receiver and call it a day.

Grab the HDFury1 and the Green edition 5 BNC RGBHV cable, get yourself an HDMI to DVI cable and your off and running. You will need to realign the projector for the two new inputs of 720P and 1080i.

EDIT: Seepling
