Feel free to add to the list

1. 4:3 (1.33:1)
2. 1.78:1
3. 16:9

16:9 IS 1.78.

Add 2.40:1 (scope) to the list for HT, and that's all for "standard" HT AR's.

There are many more if you're talking about film.

Correct me if I'm wrong but are not all "widescreen" dvd's mastered in 1.78:1 with gray bars top and bottom for higher image ratios?

Yep, that's right, Chip. DVDs are either 4:3 or 16:9, while the content on them can be shorter vertically, with extra black lines as padding.

There is no 2.40:1, it is really 2.39:1.

And 2.35:1 was only in use prior to the 70's sometime.


Oh, and DVD? Is that like an 8 track cassette or something?
