I remember an old post at AVSForum giving a general guideline about Marquee zone adjustment: 40 for the middle, 60 for the sides, and 65 for the corners. Given that I don't have a colorimeter, is that a good starting point?

those numbers are ok but keep in mind that your actually teaking the contrast when you adjust zone. So lets say you run your master contrast at 60, 10% over default. If your "zone" corners are at to 65 then they are really at 75% contrast on that part of the tube.
I would be very conservative with these numbers. I would leave the sides at 50, top/bottom at 45, and corners at 60. This gives a pretty uniform screen brightness without wearing the tubes unevenly.

I usually keep the contrast at 50-53. I have an 80" wide screen, so I have no need for a higher contrast setting. I will try the numbers you gave me.
Thanks,

Nicholas
