my wife and i have agreed that basically we watch about 4 hours of TV a week. if that. and the show's aren't on when want to watch them. we have a little 27" TV for watching broadcast and that's fine for us. we don't even have digital into the house, just good old coax analog TV.
so requirement one: we want to timeshift the shows that we actually watch.
i also need to free up an analog input on the processor that I can better purpose.
so requirement two: i want a digital feed into the processor
both my wife and i have Scottish grandparents.
so requirement three: WE'RE CHEAP
TIVO is now in Canada, but only SD, not HD (due to a licencing issue out of anyone's control). TIVO meets req's 1 and 3, but only delivers L/R analog.
our local cable company offers an HD PVR, but at three times the cost of TIVO (and from what i've heard, it's a lesser product), so shaw HD-PVR meets req's 1 and 2.
i'm starting to look at an el-cheapo DVR, but before i do that, i'd like to know about any other options that people have tried.
