Hello all,
I just changed the mother board in my HTPC Green Machine from a FoxxCon to an Abit NF95. I re-rolled WinXP, installed video and sound and the capture card drivers.
I have two issues with this mother board ( and no I can't RMA it )
Everytime Windoze boots it sayd found new PCI device. Uhhh right! Well there are only 2 installed in the slots, sound and video capture. I removed teh USB2/FireWire/Sata card for now.
I'm wondering if the new hardware that is found is the Realteck ethernet card, even though Winbloze says it's installed and working. I've tested the ethernet cable with a different PC so that works, I even pcked up an ethernet to USB2 dongle. Still no internet and I still have that damndable PIC device found every time I start Winbloze.
Any sugestions? Has anyone seen this behaviour before?
Do I just need more sleep? Will I finish off the Rum? ( Why is the rum gone? )
No I'm sober right now but after 3 or 4 days of arguing with this I feel like I need a drink ;p)

Can you grab a screen shot of device manager?
Are you getting an IP address from your router?

Will do,
I can't get any connection at all and the little XP icon says "A network cable is unplugged"

Any device attached to the PCI bus is interpreted as a PCI device. Makes no difference if its via a slot or integrated component. This could be onboard audio/video, NIC, raid controller, etc.

It could be the onboard NIC is bad, unusual but not unheard of.

I'll get to this tongiht. Just been bussy all day.
It could be a bad onbaord nic but why wouldn't Windoze see the Ethernet to USB dongle? Corection it saw it, I installed the driver but still no network.
You know there's probably a windows update to download to make the networking work so I can download a fix
