So I went into BB for the first time in probably 8 months, as I hate those bastards. WalMart (equally bad!) was sold out of Dark Knight, and BB was sold out too.

I know what the big seller was this Xmas season... BluRay. The 4 rows of shelves of BR movies was completely decimated, I've never seen such emptiness on a store shelf that wasn't going out of business. Heck, Linens and Things wasn't that bare on the closing day.

ANyways, I went to a smaller chain, they are sold out of Dark Knight as well, so I settled for National Treasure II.

So the question is, I bought Aviator on BR for $16 yesterday at WalMart, yet National Treasure was $35. Why such a price difference? Is NT II that much better quality? Does different mastering apply to older movies?

Also for the cheapskates out there, older regular DVD movies are cheaper than they ever were before. $5-8 was the going rate for 5-10 year old movies. Killer deals. Chances are I'll stick with those for most of my movies, I usually buy online or used at the DVD rental place anyways, I can't see spending $20-35 for a freaking BR unless it's something like Dark Knight that I'll specifically use as a demo disc.

National Treasure 2's worldwide box office gross was more than double that of The Aviator, so I suspect that has something to do with the price delta. The Aviator BD was also released well over a year ago (and was already a catalog title about 2 years old), while NT2 on BD was a new release last summer that came out on home video with the DVD. So, that would be part of it, too I'd imagine. The HD transfer for Aviator may have also been fully depreciated, depending on when it was done and distributed.

Mostly just a new/old thing.

$35 HOLY CRAP!!

Don't be spending that kind of dough on BR's Curt! You will just feed the Sony machine.

I think I bought NT2 used for like $8.

I don't know how things work up in Canada (obviously) but I could have paid for a few months of Netflix for $35.

Make sure you shop around when looking for BD, the last few I have picked up have been $15 at Target, other stores wanted $20-30 for the same movies.

The only movie I really want to see that I haven't found a deal on is Dark Knight, anyone wanna trade

OK, thanks! YEah, I overpaid for NTII, but it's a good flick, and nothing else on the rack struck me as worthwhile. I'll be trolling here for good deals on BR, over at avs, and of course Fleabay. I believe in movie recycling..
