Title says about as much as I can put in there but my display devices are limited to 720p. Would there be any advantage of upgrading to a bluray player in my HTPC?
Screen size is 9-10ft diagnol(haven't nailed it down yet though).

I would run no more than 8' wide with the 1272, 110" diag with a 1.78 screen.

If your 1272 is in nice shape and you set it up well, there will be an obvious - even amazing - difference between scaled SD at 1080i and Blu-ray at 1080i. My very acute case of "can't watch SD anymore-itis" took root watching HD DVD and Blu-ray at 1080i on a 1271. The better the projector, the more pronounced the difference, but a nice 12xx that's setup well will look excellent with HD and will make you realize how much SD sucks.

You should easily be able to tell the difference between SD and HD on a 12xx Sony.

This is like breast augmentation. Do you think you can get along with fake piXels, or do you go for the real deal.
