I have the Sony Superdata 1252Q and was reading the info in the Layout and Setup Tips and...

"Note: All it takes for a 1251 to become a 1271 is the installation of a newer DD and DE board from a 1271 projector. Doing so will give the 1251 the 21 zone convergence and higher bandwidth found on the 1271. This will only work if the 1251 main board has the two slots between the green and red tube needed. "

... so I'm curious if the same would apply to the 1252 becoming a 1272 and if so what would it cost for the DD and DE boards?

I did this with a 1251 taking the dd and de boards from a 1272. It worked and I had 21 point conversion. The only down fall to the whole thing was that I lost my timer that showed 800 hours on the 1251 and now it shows over 4000. I would assume it would work going from a 1272 to a 1252.

It will work with new DD and DE boards replacing the DF 'jumper' board, maybe you need an Y board too.
If your tubes are still ok (no wear) then finding a scrap 1272 is the easyest way to go.
The 1252 has always a motherboard with the DD and DE slots on it.
Advantages are 21 zone convergence and a far better bandwidth of 85MHz Thumbs Up
When replacing the Y-board you loose all the convergence settings, so first try without swapping this board.

Yeah I would like to do this for sure, my 1252q has around 600 hours on it and the tubes have no sign of wear at all, I've seen the pictures that people have posted of worn or slightly worn and mine look like new in comparing! I'll keep ya posted.
