Hi everybody,

I just bought a BARCO Data 500 off ebay and am really excited about setting it up!
£110 including delivery - bargain!

It's being supplied with a VGA to BNC cable for connection to a PC so I can run the projector at 1024 X 768 resolution. Would I get a better resolution if I went from the PC's DVI out to an HDFury? What sort of resolution could I run it at? Or have I just got confused?!

Many thanks!

Matt

Hi Matt
Welcome to the world of CRT!. To be honest your best bet would be to get Powerstrip and run the Barco at 1080i. The Data 500 should look really good. If the Data 500 is anything like the 701 you will have to make it negative sync (its simple in powerstip).

In an attempt to save $30 on powerstrip (I'm unemployed and shouldn't really have spent the £110 on the Barco! - still I've got the time to fiddle with it!) I found these options on the Nvidia control panel for my GEforce 8400GS and am trying to work out what the correct settings would be - here is my attempt:

(alt+p)

I've decided to try 720p as I've got some stuff in 720p format - am I right in thinking if something is encoded in 720p it is best to show it in 720p or does it not make much difference? The horizontal scan rate is showing at 44.76 - is this close enough to 45?
Do these settings look like they would work? Can I harm the projector by trying it out? Is the GDI refresh rate the same as bandwidth?

Any help or comments on these settings would be much appreciated, sorry about all these questions - I've got a lot of learning to do!

Hi Matt

I'm sure there is a trial version of powerstrip available, It just shows a message for a couple of seconds when you load it. From my experience I found 1080i looks better, I'm sure there are people here who will say the opposit, but thats just my two cents. Also 720p might be a tad soft on the data 500, 1080i should be a lot sharper. I had 720p running on my 701 and it did look great, but 1080i blew me away.

give the powerstrip demo a try (i'm still using it), once you see 1080i on that machine you will not be dissapointed.

here is the link to the official download

Sorry I didnt I asnswer your question, in order to get 720p working you will need to set the refresh rate to 60 and have negative sync.
